So I'm getting a XPS 1530 as a replacement for my Inspiron e1705 as my inspiron was still under warranty. I have a question. The xps 1530 is coming with the Wide Screen WXGA TrueLife LCD screen though. How would I go about upgrading the resolution for this laptop? How much extra will I have to pay Dell (if there is this kind of service)

it will be much easier for you to sell your new xps1530 and order another one w/ desired screen.

So there's no dell xps service where I pay ~$50 and then send my laptop back to them and they replace it with the new screen and send it back?

If you do the work yourself... sure it can be done, providing you get the right screen.

It's not that big of a deal to order the part yourself. Just call up Dell parts and ask them how much is the XK309. I think it's between $250 and $400. That's the WSXGA. I think I saw someone else saying they saw it from a parts dealer for $250, but a link wasn't provided. Unfortunately in this case you are not paying the price difference between the 2 screens, but buying a whole new screen. Your best bet would be to try to bargain with customer service to get them to send you 1530 with the screen you want for a few more bucks ie, the same upcharge as when you configure one on the Dell website.
