Wanted to get people's opinion on which they would choose, and why. Thanks. Aiming for use on a 15.4" screen.

Movies, go HD. Guess it would mean more with Blu Ray though. Also, if it's for gaming you'll be hard pressed to find a GPU to drive that resolution anyway.

They are both HD. 1440x900 is 720p capable.

This has been posted too many times. The full HD screen obviously offers 1080p and higher pixel fill rate. The LED screen has a brighter and more vibrant display.

CNETs HD 101 has alot of useful information on the differences of resolutions, including the similarity the eye sees in 1080p and 720p especially after two feet of distance.

I assume you made the choice for the LED? I have a PS3, and will be watchign blu ray on that.

The LED should be the better choice, for brightness, but the full WUXGA screen would serve better in terms of functionality.
    Not gaming though :p

I'm guessing a lot of Dell owners have pretty good vision. I just can't read text on a 15" WUXGA screen

Get the LED. Leave full HD WUXGA to the 17" laptops and TVs.

Agreed Scythie. The sweet spot on a 15" is WSXGA+, unless you main requirement is image editing, or CAD. WUXGA is simply too small.. I do wear -5D spects, though, so it might be a personal issue.. :|

Curiosly enough a very good friend of mine bought my second choice of laptop while I was comparing. I ended up with the WLED m1530 and he bought a Lenovo T61p with 1900x1200.

Before I compared those two screens I would have said the real estate on the screen is key. I do have to admit on the 1900x1200 the text is readable no problem, you couldn't sit back in a chair and just browse the web though!!
But the difference is humongous it's a world of difference, undiscribable.

1900x1200: unevenly Lit, very dark compared to the LED, the viewing experience is not great(wouldn't want to watch movies on it or play games!)

WLED: very bright (Indors I usually dim it down one setting because its so bright!) movies and games look phenomenal. in the bottom right is some small backlight bleeding but its only noticible when the screen is completly dark (the black taskbar in Vista looks uniform so backlight bleeding is not a problem). Space is in my opinion good, could be better, but is enough.

An insight to HD. It is more or less (a debatably maybe) fact that U can not distinguish between HDReady(1280x720) and FullHD(1900x1080) on screens smaller than 50". your screen is 15,4" so forget it the resultion is more then enough!

It's apperent I LUV my WLED! I'm veeery happy with it!

Yeah one of my collegues at work has a 15.4'' latitude with a 1920x1200 screen that he graciously showed me yesterday. It was very small, but readable up close. The funny thing is, he told me the text size that I'm reading right now is actually the Large DPI setting... it was also not unevenly lit, but having spent time with my M1530 that has an LED display, wow. His practically damages my eyes from how dark it is, though it is similar to my Inspiron E1505.
