first of all, is "17.0" Widescreen WXGA+ WLED (1440x900) TFT Display with TrueLife™" a LED screen?

and is it worth £30 more then the "17 Widescreen WXGA+ CCFL (1440x900) TFT Display with TrueLife™"

also, is the backlit keyboard worth £30 or shall i get a fingerprint scanner instead.

i need it to be £799.00 or more as then i can use the 10% off and i dont want to go a lot more the £720 which is what it would cost after the discount

Yes, that is the LED backlit screen. I paid a lot more than that for the LED screen in my Studio 15, and I've been very impressed with it, so at £30, I'd definitely make the upgrade.

    1440x900 screen res i a bit low for a 17"... i would prefer 1680x1050 for a 17".

and yes the LED is a good investment. it consumes less power, brighter, warm up instantly, and should be more pleasant to view.

do you need a fingerprint scanner? i dont know the current generation one; but my experience with fingerprint scanner is not all well... you sometimes get false reading, which is frustating, and you need to swipe it just right to get a positive reading... if you're on a budget then... i would choose the LED over the fingerprint scanner, unless you think it will benefit you.

The WLED screen is definitely worth the extra investment. It is upto twice as bright as the standard CCFL screen and uses half the power to boot.

The backlit keyboard is very nice if you often find yourself in dimply lit rooms or typing away until the sun goes down. It is again lit with leds and so doesn't use too much power when it's on.

The fingerprint reader is ok. It's good for loging into vista without having to type a password. People who have gotten used to it seem to swear by it (and then swear at it when they don't clean the reader surface and it starts giving false readings). :D

I'm new here, but I have the Studio 17 with the WLED screen, and backlit keyboard.

I would highly recommend the WLED screen, it looks so much nicer than the standard screen. I had a 1721 for a month, and took it back then I put this 1735 together with WLED screen and backlit keyboard.

I find the keyboard very nice, easy to type on, it does not flex, and the light only goes on if your turn it on which is great in dim light or at night. You also have 2 levels of brightness for the backlight as well, so you can have it full bright or dim it down a bit for easy on the eyes in the dark.

Both options in my opinion are well worth the expense. The only problem I have with these Studio's is the media touch keys are not backlit, they do light when you move your finger over them but even in the daytime they are extremely hard to see, and I have often touched the volume or cd eject one by accident and ejected a cd while it was playing. Hopefully Dell will release a Bios update that would turn these media controls on with backlighting.

wled is a plus, while i dont think the light is bright enough from that backlit keyboard on studio 15.
well, i sued to that xps 1730 backlit, the whole keyboard would lit up.
on studio 15, light only at the bottom of keys.
