    Hi everyone,

Like many others here I"m considering buying the 1330, but also like others, I"m somewhat worried about the thinness of the LED screen. I haven't seen any concrete answers to the question as to the possible flimsiness of the screen Any comments? Should I maybe ask this in the Sony forum (SZ) ?

    TIA

    Shraga

As long you treat your notebook with care as you would any other notebook I don't see why you would have a problem.

I'm just nervous for when I fly. maneuvering in an airplane with a laptop bag, taking it out and using it on the plane...

I solicited answers on the Sony (SZ) forum as well, for anyone interested...

I don't see LED screens to be any more fragile than the regular CCFL-backlit LCDs... Either one is breakable, but the difference in sturdiness between the two, if any, is miniscule.

Besides, you can always pay a little extra for accidental damage coverage ;) Could be useful for ANY notebook :)

What worries me is that according to reviews, the LED cover is a lot thinner than the CCFL ones, hence my worrying about whether it's more fragile. Thinner=more fragile, or not?

I hope not as I just upgraded mine to LED with webcam !!! I did think about this aspect before upgrading but the damage is usu. by either spilling liquid or dropping the entire laptop- both of which would be covered by my accidental coverage. My only concern is that one of the lights might be "DOA" but again, the warranty should cover that. So, I will venture forward....

My guess is that thickness of the plastic cover itself will not vary. It's the thickness of the backlight element that contributes to thinner lid with LED screen vs the CCFL one. In other words, all the elements of the lid are the same b/n the two, only backlight is different, therefore the overal tensile strength won't be much different. Yes, LED screen will flex a little bit more but will be as sturdy as the CCFL one.
