So here it is, Lg is on the RIGHT side and Samsung on the left. the LG is 1400X900. and Samsung is 1280X800. in two photos I adjusted the screen resolution of the Lg to 1280X800 just in case some asked for it.

I have more photos with backgrounds but I only can post 6...

anyone knows how I can post more than 6 photos?

    edit:
here are the rest of the photos .
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=211283

they are in post #26 of the thread. these will help you also see the diffrence when you look at the screen in angle

Try the macro setting on your camera next time. It should focus better.

You have to go into the control panel and then hardware manager. There you navigate to "Display" and then select properties with rightclick. There, in the "details" tab you can find the display id.

My M1530 is currently en route to Dell, with a letter explaining the situation and requesting the LG screen. *fingers crossed*

This is purely speculation, I think as soon as Dell is aware of this, and I think they are. They should just stop ordering the samsung screens so that part will no longer be available to consumers. That would be great

Even if Dell was aware of it and chose to drop Samsung panels, they will have to make up the supply difference from other suppliers. And we've seen numerous reports of lcd panel shortages in the past..in fact I won't be surprised if they just barely manage to fill all their orders with the current quota. So their hands are pretty much tied too and may have no choice but order from Samsung.
Others are in the same boat too not just Dell...Lenovo, HP,Acer etc..

I think only thing Dell can hope to do is make Samsung aware of the problem and hope Samsung will take steps to improve their panels.

For those that were able to get a tech to come out and swap your panel, how exactly did you go about requesting.

I tried tech support, who told me to call customer care.

Customer care told me that I would have to return my entire system, then purchase a new one, and thats way too much hassle for this.

Has anyone been able to just get a tech to come out and swap the panel?

Well, after chatting with XPS support, calling customer care, calling XPS support, getting transferred to sales, and then finally calling XPS support one last time, my new LG is on the way...

The XPS tech I talked to was very helpful. I told him my situation, that the screen was fine in a less-than-bright room, but when when I take it to class, or if its outside, screen brightness is terrible, even on max settings. Told him that I have the Samsung panel, had read that others were having success with the LG, as requested to have my panel swapped out.

So, he puts me on hold for 5-10 mins, comes back and tells me they will ship out an LG panel to me ASAP, and I'll get a call from a tech. All at no charge to me.

Now here's hoping its the correct resolution...

We have heard from the other thread that a dell tech knows of the LCD screen issue and even if you call up and ask, you will not be guaranteed the screen you asked for. You basically get what they have in stock.

Dell is like a online supermarket, if they dont have a product in stock they will suit an appropriate replacement product, and when they come to your home and you see the product, you can send it back and get a new one with your next delivery! just keep going until you get the intended product. Its stupid, you shouldn’t get this with the dell xps range

I think dell keep a broad view for there LCD's, as there is never a smooth available flow of screens so its basically whatever is there stock room at that time!

Those photos are extremely convincing. I was about to give up on my quest for the LG and keep my XPS with Samsung. Now I will have an LG or return the notebook. Unfortunately, I will be on vacation all next week and unable to participate in any warranty work and my 21 day expires at the end of that. So it looks like return is what will occur.

Just for clarification could you state the manufacturers, model numbers and the resolutions of each clip? Thanks.

I have 2 identical XPS 1530s(one for my wife and one for me) other than the screen manufactorers. The specs are in my sig. The first one I had was replaced with an LG part # XK309.

Top picture is LG, Dell part # XK309 and reports as hardware ID LPLF300 in device manager.

Bottom picture is Samsung. I have no Dell Part # but it reports as hardware ID SEC3350 in device manager.

Both screens are WSXGA+ Truelife 1680x1050 screens.

How they can claim there is no problem is beyond me when it is so glaringly obvious.

I believe that the Dell LG part number for the 1280 x 800 15.4" screens is NU763. If that's the case, it should be added to that list, too.

Dell tech just left my apartment after a smooth install of my new LG screen...

    b-e-a-utiful...

and I have to say, despite having to call back and forth between Dell tech support, and customer care a few times, it was really a painless swap. My guess is they figured out they screwed up and have stopped hassling people.

Mine was, came up as an LPL0301 in device manager. I sent it back and now have an RP636 (Samsung "generic"). I like the colours better but yes brightness out of the box is not as good.

the XPS M1730 has the same issue with samsung monitors.

Crappy colours, poor brightness, and worst of all, it has massive light bleeding at the bottom of the monitor.

I got a sharp monitor with mine and I really can't complain. I think the LG is a tad better then the sharp but they're both quality monitors.

Maybe I'm the only one, but the Samsung monitor that was shipped with my 1530 was actually pretty good. I looked at the pictures that show off the grainyness on page 4 and mine has none of that. Period. It is also very, very bright. I have three LCDs in my house to compare it to, and side by side with my ViewSonic 20" they are they exact same brightness at 50%! The only thing that is not good are the viewing angles.

Jobodaho, what resolution is your screen? Most people have issues with the 1680 Samsung, but perhaps Samsung's not so bad on other resolutions.

No, it's the 1680 version. Again I don't see the "grain" like in the pictures shown in this thread, and it is definitely bright. My only issues would be viewing angles and the glossy screen, but I didn't have a choice on the last one.
