I was Sooooooo dissappointed at the 3rd replacement I got from Dell. They put bad parts in my system.
- Screen : sharp
- Drive : samsung - quiet but not as fast as Hitachi
-DVD: TSST -quiet, i don't know much about the performance of this one,
I have to send a brandnew replacement back to Dell in return and keep my 2nd replacement. My 2nd seems to work fine now when i use Dell's Drivers on CD.
THe SHarp screen shows really bad color saturation and contrast. If you do lots of graphics and photography, I recommend you shouldn't get this screen. The color is very inaccurate.
I have my LG ones made from Dell Austin,TX the SHARP and SAMSUNG one from DEll TN
SHARP ON THE LEFT, LG ON THE RIGHT

if i had to choose, i'd keep the one on the left. it looks way better than the one on the right.

What calendar and weather program is that on the desktop? Looks good.
-
I think the two screens are very very nice! Don't see a reason to complain about (just looking the pictures) -
The one on the left's color is really bad, cause U can't see it in ur real eye.
I use Yahoo Widgets for calendar and weather. -
are we talking about the same thing cuz the one on the left has way richer color; hands down.
-
I am looking at these picture on my WUXGA LG screen, so I might be biased, but the right screen certainly produces richer and more natural colours compared to the one on the left. Sharp has a much more even color distribution though, judging from the 5th set of photos.
-
call me weird. but i preffer one of the right.. (actually my first notebook will arrive soon so i am a rookie on this)..
hey dude.. nice.. things with the widgets.. but.. for skinning XP.. you know the tray bar. and that things. what do you use?
thanx -
how do you tell what screen you have? i just bought an xps m1210 and i don't know if i got samsung/lg/auo... how do i tell?
-
the one on the left would only look good if the orange is really supposed to be red....otherwise to me it's obvious that the one on the right produces a more saturated color. Red will always have more jam than orange, but don't confuse that with saturation....that's another thing and the LG hands down has the better saturation.
the desktop shots are the most revealing as far as saturation goes. but if those images are supposed to be orange and they show red then that would be the main problem.....though I imagine it would be fixable. just mess with the color adjustments or get a spider calibrator and do it up. that would fix that
Nothing can fix that light leakage though...ouch.....on the other hand I think it's safe to point out that ALL laptops have some light leakage....so it's not about avoiding leakage, it's all about finding the amount of leakage you can live with.
Cheers

I bought a 9400 about a month ago. Got 2 replacements so far.
I opted for the Truelife screen.
1st and 2nd one had a LG [lpl] screen. 3rd one which I got 2 days ago has a Sharp [shp] screen.
I noticed on the LG screens some thin lines but mine are diagonal, like this: \
Easy to see on white backgrounds when brightness is on max.
I have no problems with my eyes and the lines can be seen from ~20 cm.
3rd laptop has a Sharp screen and there are no lines like on the previous 2!
Anybody else with this issue?
I didn't return the 2nd laptop because I just got the 3rd one.
I'll do some photos today and post them here later today. -
Skins you can look up on deviantart.com
NOTE: THE WALLPAPER SUPPOSED TO BE ORANGE THAN RED, SO KEEP THAT IN MIND THE SHARP SCREEN PRODUCE THE WRONG COLOR, i mean it's way too wrongLast edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
I personally prefer the left one (SHARP) going by the pictures.
The issue here I believe will have to be on what exactly does the actual photos show (there's one or two that has "dark red" on the sharp & "orange red" on the LG). I would suggest going with the one that shows the closest color to the actual photo.
I myself have gone through quite a bit of screens myself recently. Had 5 LCD replacements for E1705 (all Samsung WXGA+) & also 2 replacement systems & 1 LCD replacment for my M1210 (all AUO WXGA). I'll say that even the same brand exhibits slight differences in the color output & I'll say that is down to the lamps that the LCD makers used for the backlight of the LCD. A good example is the M1210 AUO that I noticed. At one point of having 2 AUO M1210 screens, I noticed that on a white background, one is "yellowish white" while the other is "pinkish white." Comparing a picture with blue color makes one "sea blue" while the other one is "purple blue" on the same LCD brand & model. Not only that, at max brightness, one is brighter than the other. Talk about quality control?!?!?
So my suggestion is to just go with whatever you feel comfortable because I personally feel that the current screens that Dell are using are only just average. I mean I'll love to see Dell issue great LCD screens with all their laptops but sadly that is not the case currently. Thanks for sharing the pictures as well & keep us posted on any new developments.
Good luck. -

I've got both of these screens at the moment. The LG screen is a lot brighter - bringing it down two levels has it at the same brightness as the Sharp.
Also, on the desktop, why is there a difference in the font and icon size (smaller on the LG) when both are on the same resolution and DPI?
Overall I think I prefer the Sharp.
LG always on the left
-
Dell shipped my LG with the DPI settings at 120, not default 96 DPI.

The green color (grass) in trees picture looks more true color in right pic. Big difference between orange / red, the colors on right screen are more real.

how does he know it's supposed to orange or red? maybe he's had incorrectly colored LCDs all this time and the Sharp is the first one to correctly reproduce it?
i still say the one on the left looks way way better.
the grass doesn't look washed out like it does on the right.
definitely would keep the left one -
I tried with my desktop LCD, and The color supposed to be orange, not red/orange. I'll try some more color comparison when i still have my sharp one with me.

See, this is why CRT pwns LCD.
That being said, you obviously can't get a CRT in a laptop (nor would you want one), and it is nearly impossible to find slimfit widescreen CRT monitors, though Samsung makes some very nice slim widescreen HD CRT TVs. My next external monitor choice will most likely be an LCD and either be an LG or a Dell. Everytime I'm at Best Buy I just look at the LCD TVs and the LGs all look so much better than the other TVs around them. Plus, LGs almost always have a higher contrast ratio. I just think that LG makes superb LCDs. Of course, I have an AUO screen which sucks, but I don't feel like complaining to Dell and having to either a) be without my computer until they replace it or b)have to replace it myself and have to take my computer apart.
But like I said, CRT>>LCD when it comes to picture clarity and color. -
