Just bought and received my first Dell. I bought an Inspiron 1520. The problem I am having is with an extremely laggy (not sure if that is the right term) keyboard. As I type anything I find the text to be about 2 to 3 words behind. It is almost as if there are not enough system resources for it to keep up. The computer has 2GB Memory, Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7250 @ 2.00GHz, and running windows xp home.

Has anybody else had this problem and is there a fix?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Sometimes this depends on the website you are typing on....or if it's happening all the time, then maybe you have spyware or too many processes running, but by the sound of it, and with your 2 GB or RAM, it seems running quickly....I know IMDB forums lag when typing into their forums which has nothing to do with the computer but the way that their text is input to the textbox....

The lagging occurs in all aplications. Windows, excel, notebook, websites, etc. Across the board.

As far as spyware, I have had the computer for 5 days and run AVG. Just did a complete system check with no problems.

There might be too many processes but with everything closed, fresh out of the box, I have been having this problem.

Have you cleaned the bloatware from your machine? The last machine I bought was an eMachines loaded with crap. One of the problems I had before cleaning the system, was the same sort of lagging you describe, though not quite to the same degree. You're probably a much faster typist than I. lol

I had the same issue with my 1520 when it arrived. Reinstalled the entire OS and not the bloatware and the issue was resolved. Later on, I found a thread on this forum saying it had something to do with a PowerDVD process if I recall correctly. Unfortunately, I cannot locate the thread any more.

You could check your CPU usage, hard drive activity, internet traffic, etc.

I'm not an expert, but if this was happening the first time you switched it on (after hard drive activity had finally stopped, and before you installed any non-included software or changed any settings), and it still happens when the hard disk is not thrashing, you are physically disconnected from the Internet and your wireless is turned off, personally, I would call Dell on their warranty. If they can't fix it, they should replace it.
