I just ordered my XPS M170 yesterday! For my current thinkpad I have a laptop cooler that has some ports, but mainly 3 fans that help keep the laptop cool. I find the laptop runs much smoother with it. Being the massive computer the M170 is, I'm looking to buy a laptop cooler for this as well. Unfortunately the current one I have is quite cheap, and most likely not support the weight of the M170.

So, is anyone using one here? Is cooling sufficient w/o one? If you are using one, which one? How do you like it?

That one is great. Kinda loud, and you will need to put something under the back so it won't scratch your table/desk when you move it. The other thing is it has an extra USB port, so you don't have to sacrifice one.

If you would like something small that does its job well, this is what I have:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834996501

It's a nice little cooler, and it has the convenience of working really well, being extremely portable, and looking pretty nice too. It also has an extra usb port. And let's not forget the best part, it's cheap!!

That one looks good, but I have conerns about the XPS being on top. Especially with people saying their 6000 doesnt sit right..

Yeah, I noticed that review. Alot of people buy that cooler for thier XPS, since it matches the lights. All it does is blow air under the notebook, and it blows it directly under the fans of the XPS (which is nice since the XPS takes in air from the bottom and blows it out the back). The fans are angled slightly outward, so it can be small and still cover larger laptops.

I guess what I am saying is, that guy has no idea what he's talking about!!

yea I found it that before I saw your link :D

I ordered it and seems like a good cheap solution. The only other one I found was the cooler master notepal w1. It's designed specifically for widescreen 17" laptops.

The site even specifies that the cooler is 400mmx300mm when the M170 is 394mmx288mm. So it would have been almost perfect, but found that the measurements are incorrect and the XPS would hang about 2 inches off the back. Not really relevant just figured I'd write it in for anyone searching and coming across this post.

Best solution seems the be the one linked above. Saw some tests showing 4 degrees to 10 degrees drop in temperature using it. Nobody complained of stability issues with the M170 on top, but apparently the 6000 does.

Depending on where you are, Cingular is rolling out hsdpa (3.5G) which is practically broadband. Also Verizon and their EV-DO is faster than T-Mobile's Edge network.

I love my T-Mobile voiceplan but I wish they'd hurry up and deploy 3/3.5G already (from what I've been reading it won't happen until early next year at the very earliest.)

@yinlun: Nice choice on going with the XPS! Mine is in the boxing phase and should be here early next week. Don't forget to protect that lid from scratches..

Good purchase ;) It's an excellent little cooler. Also, the biggest heat issue on the XPS is the memory, it has very little cooling. This cooler keeps it extremely cold, I'm sure you'll be very happy with it!! Hope you enjoy it :)

OK my iron will has given in to your recommendation. And I have spent more money on a machine that hasn't even arrived yet.

Let's see: small, cheap, matches XPS leds. Doubles as a stand, usb powered. How can I go wrong? :D

I just picked up one of those coolers sublime suggested and it is great. Nice and small and looks to be easy to take on the raod when needed. Puts the laptop at a nice angle as well.

Do you think the Spire Pacific Breeze would work with the e1705? I bought the bytecc cooler but it doesn't seem to have much effect on the temp of my notebook because it cools the middle of the base rather than the back end where the heat intakes are located. Are the M170 heat intakes located in the same spots as the e1705?

I do not know for sure but the case looks the same on both of these models. I would guess the fan ports are in the same place. So far this one seems to blow nice cool air where the fan intake ports are which is nice.
