I have a M1530 and when i watch dvds or any videos i plug in my tv either via hdmi or vga (mostly vga) I have nvidia drivers setup as an extended desktop.

When i watch the videos and i close the lid on my laptop it causes the extended monitor (tv) to become the primary monitor until i open the lid on the laptop again. the problem with this is it causes VLC to close and i cannot watch the video on the tv anymore.

anyone know how i can fix this so i can have my laptop lcd closed but watch a movie on my tv?

    Thats a good point. Umm...
Couldn't you set it up so that the tv IS the primary monitor, but leave the laptop open, just force it to turn the laptop screen off... I think the Fn and CRT/LCD button might do that, but i'm not sure. It at least turns off the monitor so it's not just displaying a still image.

oh so you mean using FN+F8 to turn the lcd on laptop off and just use the tv? i guess thats an option.

Im sure there is a way i can use the tv and laptop together and have the screen closed on the laptop but have the tv display as extended. just cant seem to find the setting :)

    Go to windows Control Panel
    >Power Options
    > Advanced Tab
    >under power button, under close the lid of screen, select "do nothing"

if you ever do this make sure you're on the Dell Recommended/Power Saver plan.

if you're on high performance everything will be running at full, it will all get hot, and your screen will get BURNED.

believe me - i found out the hard way :(

my power settings are already to that, and if you are on full and close the screen it doesnt burn the screen. atleast not on my m1530 because my screen is always down when im not using and nothing has ever happened.

i should have mentioned that in the main thread. what happens when i close it is the tv becomes monitor 1 but doesnt display the video. the only workaround ive found is loading the visualizer in winamp but sometimes it becomes distracting and with some HD movies it causes blips in the video.

i know there has to be a way to get it to work i just cant figure it out.

well maybe it's alright if you're just watching videos - but i'd recommend against closed-screen gaming.

    just trying to warn you...

hmm.. can't you just set it up so that when you connect the TV, nothing happens; ie. laptop display is still primary and TV shows no image, and then try the CRT/LCD function, and then shut the laptop lid?

    basically: try without extending it?
