Following on from this thread and after a total of 3 monitor replacements, 3 keyboard replacements, a mobo change, display bezel change and a DVD-ROM drive - Dell have agreed to replace my laptop :D

Originally I was getting a 1558 replacement (which I was happy with - I was getting a better processor for nothing  ), but after speaking to his product team, the person I am dealing with (a floor manager) informed me I could get a like for like replacement with a newly built 1555. I thought fair's fair, as long as it works.

I recieved a phonecall on thursday telling me they couldn't offer me the ruby red cover with microsatin finish on the 1555 system, as they no longer make the parts for it. This is quite annoying as I bought accessories from the dell website to go with this colour, and I like it apart from anything else :p If Dell can't supply the red cover, would I be able to ask for a laptop that does have the cover? They said the replacement would be either equal in spec or better, but I'm not sure if the colour counts.

    Thanks for the help :)

I would not stop until I had a red one. If you bought a red one they should replace it with a red one. I'm sure they have red one's in the outlet. Heck if nothing else they could swap the red lid on your current machine to the new one. If they can't get a 1555 in red then they better do a 1558, I wouldn't take no for an answer.

    BTW, it'd DDR3 not DDR4.

Its funny - you go to Dell.com spend hours to spec out the laptop that best fits your style, personality and functional needs. It fails and Dell just picks one out of a hat to send you... thats messed up

Its a Personal Computer- made impersonal

Yeah, I think Im gonna insist on a 1558 with the red cover. I think I kinda deserve at least that, since I've not even asked for anything in compensation for 6 months of repairs and collections. I've even paid extra for a backlit keyboard and 4 years advannced warranty with the new one :p

    Thanks Guys :)

Was DELL fair to you??? NO

Why are you being Fair with them???

Do not stop until they offer something comprable or a slight (in some cases posted here HUGE Upgrades)

If they do not have the 15" Red Cover.

Ask they guy to check the inventory stock for a 17" model with the RED cover, they can offer an upgrade not a down grade Don't accept a down grade.

And don't fall for their trained lawyer negotiating tricks of well I give you a better processor but sorry we don't have the Graphics card you had or want.

By its very nature time has moved on of course you are getting a better processor and don't accept a worse GPU.

Simply say, time is a concern, you do not have my red color bezel, give me a 17" inch one, or double check with your super visor if you can.

I need the 15" for carting it around uni from lecture to lecture, so a 17" isn't an option unfortunately :(

But, if he can't get the 1555 with the Red cover, I'm gonna insist on the 1558 - GPU's not an issue, only had the HD4570 anyway :D

I am however gonna chance my arm and see if I can get anything for my troubles :p
