My girlfriends dell inspiron 1501 just started screaming if you want to call it that.

Whenever its on it has a high pitch incredibly annoying sound coming from it.

When its not plugged in and just running off the battery its even worse.

I tried using a dust can and blowing the fans and such with no luck.

Called dell they were no help unless I paid 50bucks to get over the phone troubleshooting. which is some bs.

    Thanks so much guys!

    Fan bearings?
I know with power tools that's usually what a high pitched squeal is; seized or bad bearings. Maybe hard drive motor bearings going bad too.

^That's what I would check at first.

Unplug the fan cable from the motherboard and start it up. If the sound is gone, then it's your fan bearings. Luckily, a replacement heatsink/fan unit is less than $50.
