To make a long story short, Dell will not help me out on my screen problem. Everytime I call Dell or use Dell chat they tell me its an driver problem, and when I tell them that I updated all the drivers 6 times they argue with me and either put on hold and never pick up or hang up. The problem that I have is an "backlight" issue. I really like the 1720 but the screen is a downer, I use this laptop mainly of digital arts and looking at this screen everyday is painfull. Your advice is needed.

backlight bleed isn't a driver issue. all lcds have some light bleed.. but that is way too much

you got a crap screen. send dell these pics and request a new screen

It's borderline...every laptop screen I've seen has an element of light bleeding and if those pics are anything to go by (and I'm betting it worse in real life actually looking at it) and you as a customer are unsatisfied, then you have the rights to have the screen replaced.

Plain and simple...ask for the screen OR laptop to be replaced and if they skip around the issue with driver BS ask politely to speak to a superviser then and there and ask for a full refund.
They will quickly change their tune.

Tell them that you see the problem in the BIOS as well, so it cannot be a driver problem.
