    Hi All,
I was just wondering which laptop would be faster for digital photography

    1st laptop:
    Dell Inspiron 9300

    Intel® Pentium® M 760 Processor (2GHz/533MHz FSB)
    17 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen XGA+ Display
    2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz 2 Dimm
    60GB 7200rpm Hard Drive
    8x CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer write capability
    256MB NVIDA® GeForce™ Go 6800

    2nd laptop:
    HP ZD8000

    Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 560 w/HT Technology, 3.6GHz
    17.0" WXGA+ Wide Viewing (1440x900)
    2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz 2 Dimm
    60GB 7200rpm Hard Drive
    DVD+/-RW/R & CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer
    256MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) X600

Both machines are within $150 of each other in price

    Bottom line and useage:
MAIN USE::I do alot of digital photography, converting Canon 20D RAW files to TIFFS & jpegs using BreezeBrowser and then editing them, I also use Photoshop CS quite frequently and other imaging programs, basic office apps, burning CD's and the web

FYI-I use the machine for everything but I do not play games at all
    please help !!!!!!
    Thanks...shkj

Hmm, you also posted this message on notebookforums.com

Now are these custom configurations from the manufacturer's websites. If so, then save the cash and get a 64 or 128 meg video card, those video cards are only for gamers.

I also recommend the 9300, the Pentium 4 processor is a bad choice for notebooks, the ZD8000 will get very hot after a while, maybe to dangerous levels which may harm the internal components.

HP is making nice stuff now but the only problem i have heard with that laptop is it gets way too hot, which is not good for the laptop or the other compnents, also makes portability and using it on your lap an issue. I have a 9200, the one the 9300 is replacing it only gets a little warm on one side, even while playing CPU/Graphic intense games. Maybe im biased but i would say the 9300.

    *Dell Inspiron 9200, P-M 2.1ghz 400mhz FSB, 1 GB Ram 333mhz, 17inch WSXGA+ Screen, 60gb 7200rpm HD, 128 ATI M Radeon 9700 (OC: 485/270), XP Pro SP2, Wifi + Bluetooth*

*Sony MDR-G74SL Headphones for music and gaming, best 40 dollar pair i have ever bought!*

    Hey DeathMoJo,
Have you used your 9200 for photoshop or any Digital photography apps ??

    My current machine is a

    Dell Inspiron 8200
    P4-M 1.8 with 768 megs of ram PC2100 (Not a new Pentium M Dothan)
    64 meg ATI Raedon 9000
    60 gig 7200 Hitachi drive (main drive-O/S)
80 gig 5400 rpm ibm (modular bay-DATA STORAGE)
    orinoco gold b/g client card
    15" uxga screen (1600x1200 resolution)
    24x CDRW/DVD combo drive
    on board Firewire
    PCMCIA USB 2.0 card

I just have to be sure it will be a noticeable difference ????

That's what I am looking for because I am upgrading from another laptop !!!!!
    Thanks....shkj
