I'm ready to replace my Inspiron 9100 and looking for something that will be more portable while adequately handling Photoshop CS and minor video editing (Pinnacle Studio 9).

I'm sure just about any Dell laptop that I could buy today will give me more horsepower than the 9100, but I'm looking for advice in choosing from the following:

710M - love the size, but concerned about performance
XPS M140 - size looks reasonable, but concerned about performance
    E1505 - maybe a good compromise on size/performance
E1705 - good performance, but heavy and big

    Any thoughts?

If you are limiting yourself to Dell I would look at the Latitude D620 or D820 which will offer much better quality and US based support.

I'd say check out the D620 too. It is a great quality notebook, is smaller size than the E1505, and still offers great duo core performance.

    True^^^

So to rephrase, the d620 not having a glossy screen may or may not be something you like

I have the e1505 set up and running photoshopcs2. It is superb to say the least. Be sure and get the highest resolution screen. I have the 100gb 7200 rpm drive for fast searching of your favorite photos. The fastest processor and graphics card is nice too. I plan to do all of my editing on this machine since I don't have much of a desktop. I'll wait until the 64 bit revolution is complete before buying a desktop.

I have the D620 and running photoshop is no problem. I haven't done desktop video editing on it but encoding DVDs are not problem, either.

Agree, but I will get the D820 because it has a bigger screen 15.4" vc 14"
    Has dedicated graphic card
Won't save much on D620 over the D820
