    Hi everyone,

I have a few last-second questions about which laptop I should buy.

    1) Should I get 1 GB of DDR2 RAM with 2x512 (2 DIMM) or pay $45 to updgrade to 1 DIMM. I plan on adding a 1GIG stick myself. Do you have to match memory or can you have a 1GB and a 512MB stick in there?

    2) Any other thoughts/opinions on the deal. Here are the specs

    Inspiron 6400

    -- 8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
    -- Dell Wireless 1490 802.11a/g Mini Card (54Mbps)
-- 85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery

i would say pay the extra $45 to get 1 GB in 1 DIMM so when you add the other gig you have 2 GB instead of 1.5 GB. Also, this way you wont be throwing out half the memory you've paid for

    I agreee - paying $45 gets you 2GB instead of just 1.5GB.

Are you going to buy a 1GB stick or you already have one?
If you are going to buy 1 then don't upgrade the ram at all, and buy 2GB dual-channel from somewhere else(the last time I checked Newegg it was $140).
