    This has been happening about once a week and it will last for about an hour.

    The laptop contains a Dell Wireless 1390. My router is a linksys wrt54gl running ddrt 2.3 or whatever.

    Anyone know why?

    Hi, I have a dell d630; got similar issues with a Netgear wgr614. I tried these:
    1. contact Netgear --> too expensive service, got into their forums, told to check all interferences in the house
    2. checked all electronic devices and realized that my home phone works on 2.4 GHz ! Every time someone was on the phone, the wireless internal card dropped the signal. Removed phone out of the way. Still, it happened at other times as well, so--> removed other wires/ electric/ electronic stuff, same result-->
    3. updated Netgear firmware--> same stuff again-->
    4. went back to Netgear forums, told to check the Gigabyte Ethernet cable, so
    5. asked cox cable about it; told everything should be "just fine"
    6. got exhausted and bought an intel a/g/n 4965 internal card, but realized that I have to install a 3rd antenna to make MIMO available, which means removing the display... oh, God ! which I haven't done yet b/c:
    7. bought a wireless Trendnet router "N" capable to match w/ the internal card and ...
    8. re-checking things again 1-8 !
    That's just a story, but things can get complicated with networking !
    Some routers are, simply put, "weak" or just don't work ! You may have gotten a bad unit, or it might get "old" etc
    Don't know if this experience helps, but hope someone has more ideas !
    Good luck !
