Hey guys, I was around a couple weeks ago when all the problems with the screens arised on the Dell laptops, and I haven't been around since then and it's so hard to catch up on what the latest is, so can someone please fill me in?

I really wanted to order the 1520 but I didn't pull the trigger, so just wanted to know if Dell is attempting to fix the problems. Thanks a lot.

Getting the Inspiron 1520, not the Vostro

Really? That's great news considering you just got it today, congrats. What brand was your screen and was it the same brand as the ones that were giving people problems. Also, what resolution did you end up getting, thx.

The AUO's were the ones causing the problem right?

Great info, but how does one determine which screen they have. I've used the device manager but is just says generic display... and the system iinformation listing doesn't even mention the actual lcd panel... Clue me in. :D

you need to double click that then another box will come up then click details then pull down bar in the middle of the box and go to hardware ids on the list

I found it... it's an AUO installed in my 1520. I haven't really noticed anything out of the ordinary. I'm used to my Dell 620 at work which has to have the worst LCD ever. You certainly don't need a privacy screen with that one. Its built in... even the user can't read it. I noticed on the 1520 though, that it has a very limited viewing angle as well. I have the 1140X900 display with the 8600 GT video card. I mean it's OK... but my old 1505 and Lenovo were far better..
