    Hello everyone,

I work for an independent auto repair shop. Among the laptops we use for onboard diagnostics is a Latitude D510 which recently gave up the ghost.

I got a used motherboard off ebay (same part number), and now the laptop boots however I'm faced with the dreaded gray 'enter password' screen.

The ebay seller has sent me the master password for the aforementioned motherboard. However, it doesn't seem to work. I've tried using one of the various keygens floating online and they all give the same password.

What seems weird is that when you are prompted to enter the password, there is no indication that keypresses are registered (i.e. asterisks etc). After three failed tries, the laptop turns off and I have to repeat the procedure.

Also of note is that, after the DELL splash screen, before the 'enter password' grey prompt, the following message appears for around 20 seconds:

invalid configuration information - please run setup

The CMOS battery is new and connected properly.

What am I missing here? Shouldn't the master password override any security that the previous owner might have left turned on?

    Thanks in advance!
