    Hi folks:

I am considering to purchase the Latitude D620, but there are several questions which Dell Technical Support have not been able to answer. I was wondering if any D620 owners out there have some experience with the following issues:

    1) I know that there is a fairly long thread going on in the Dell Community Forums concerning the quality of the LCD screen for this laptop. However, there has yet to be a clear photo of the problem or any indication of the severity of the problem. Are there D620 owners who have the fuzzy, dim, sparkly screen but have found that it isn't as distracting?

    2) Can the onboard VGA port output 1920x1200? Specifically, can the D620 drive the 2407WFP?

    3) Does the DVI port on the D/Dock output 1920x1200 (2407WFP)?

    4) Are there issues with taking the audio output through the D/Dock?

Please respond if you have any experience with these concerns, especially if your experience has been positive.

    Thanks,

    J

I just got my d620 today and i can say I'm perfectly satisfied with the screen. there is light leakage along the bottom but its not noticable unless you're on a black screen. don't know about your other questions though.

I have the WXGA+ screen and it is subpar. It can not display the color white properly. White areas look like they're sparkled with gray specks. This is a big problem because white is the most-used color in all applications. I think my problem is worsened by the high resolution model I bought. You might be better off sticking with the WXGA without the +.

My screen is an AUO WXGA+.

xuster what model and brand is yours?

The screen on my D620 looks fine, no complaints here. I have a WXGA+ Samsung screen.

i had the AOU (or whatever the hell it is) brand screen, and it was absolutly terrible. Tons of leakage, silvery and washed out. I had dell come pout and replace the screen with an LG philips and it is MUCH MUCH better. The viewing angles are much better, along with colors and overall quality. If you have an issue with your screen call and tell dell!

I am considering the Latitude 820 myself, just curious though, is there a minimum support plan you have to have in order for them to put a new screen in?

i believe it comes with 1 year limited which is mail in only. I have a 3 year next business day, onsite and completecare plan (free through my school). If there is ANY problem it is fixed without question. They didn't even check to see what my screen looked like. I would imagine if you send it in the check and it has to be a defect, not just ****ty... lol.

I seem to be one of those people who is not bothered by the AOU display. I do notice the grainy shimmering on areas of the display that show white, but for some reason it does not irritate my eyes.

I think that the shimmering is the result of an over-aggressive antiglare coat.

I'm just glad there are no bad pixels. Those drive me crazy.

how many different companies make screens for the latitudes anyways? I really want to get one, but if i have to get one then immediately call dell because it sucks, that kinda makes me hesitant.

    LG-Philips, AOU, samsung.
In response to panderan, it didn't bother me too much, but it was enough for me to want another screen. The colors look much more vibrant in the LG philips, but it still looks shimery... And yes, VERY TRUE, i would much rather have a little shimmer than cranking my neck around to get the right angle to avoid glare on my screen!
