Has anybody tried and have problems with using an OEM drive with Latitude D620, or any other Dell laptop for that matter?

My D620 came with a DVD drive, I customized it that way because I already have an OEM Panasonic DVD-RW drive from a previous machine. The problem is that the drive refuse to eject, and the machine refuse to read the disc. Testing the drive in a friend's machine it works well.

This make me wonder, does Dell requires the optical drive to be flashed with their firmware before it will work with any of their laptop, or their system for that matter?

Is Device Manager identifying and listing the ODD correctly?

One possible problem is the master / slave setting if the ODD shares the same IDE channel as another device.

The Device Manager identifies the ODD correctly. I did not check the BIOS or look at the IDE setting in the device manager. Will do that later.
