I'm looking at the D620 because of the smaller screen size with the option of Duo Core. I want a 14 inch duo core and this is the only system that offers this by Dell. Does anybody have one and can you tell me if it will be good enough to listen to music through, watch movies on, etc. in comparison to the E1505 or another multimedia friendly system. I don't game but I download and am taking this with me to college. I want it to be able to do these things without a problem. Thanks.

I don't think the D620 has started shipping yet, but it should be more portable than the E1505. I don't think you get media direct on it though.

This has only one speaker. Sound must be less than ideal. I don't know what headphones would sound like. This isn't a multimedia machine.

You need to check out the tests through the website:

A decent pair of heaphones will always be better than notebook speakers.

But how would it sound if I placed external speakers to it? Would it sound the same as any other notebook with external speakers or is there something inside the computer like a sound card or something that affects the sound no matter what? Also, how is the screen quality for watching movies if I were to get the new 256 nVidia graphics card?

the D620 basically uses the Quadro NVS 110/120 which are based on the Nvidia geforce go 7300/7400

the thing is with the Quadro NVS 110 its passively cooled whereas the 120 is actively cooled.

if you can, why not wait until the end of the month for dell's new releases? i'd be really surprised if they didn't come out with a 14" core duo in the Inspiron line... (the e1405)

Though the Latitude would be better build quality. I'm trying to decide between the 630m and the D620 at the momment, any suggestions?

Well if you got the D620, you always make modifications for sound quality. You can get a PCMCIA sound card and a good set of speakers, and you'll have a good system. Since the PCMCIA sound card is portable, you could use it with headphones.

That sounds like a good idea. I was waiting anyways for the D620 to get the new video card. I didn't think a new model could just come out like that so quickly. And about the Truelife, I believe Truelife is a fancy way of saying glossy screen. I'm impartial to the glossy screen as matte has it's benefits of say, being able to work outside without a glare, etc.

So, I take it sound cards are easily interchangeable on laptops? I've had the impression the only thing easily interchangeable is RAM.

It just seems odd that they don't have it as a selection, at least with matte you don't have to worry about fingerprints.

No, SouthernGirl was talking about an add-on soundcard that goes into he PC Card slot. But I think that'll be unnecessary unless you're a hardcore audiophile. The D620 uses Intel's High Definition Audio codec, sound quality from the audio out jack will be comparable to other modern laptops.

What about screen quality and stuff though for watching movies on the D620 versus the E1505?
