    Hi all,

For some reason when I plug in my external harddrive and when I start copying/accessing files the windows will freeze itself. Sometimes it freezes instantaneously but sometimes it freezes after few minutes.

It seems that using the USB is a little but better but sometimes it still freezes. Using firewire definitely will freeze my Windows though.

Have tried the harddrive on other laptops and other D630 and it works fine.

Had tried to update the BIOS.

Didn't install any strange software which may modify any settings of the windows.

    Have tried to reinstall drivers.

No errors were logged in the error log when the windows freezes.

    Any ideas? Thanks

hmm I sort of have this issue too. If I try to boot up with my external hard drive hooked up through usb, windows won't even load. But I really don't know how to fix it. Anyone else have problems with external hds and d630s?

It must be related to settings, rather than an actual bug, as I have had this on a D600 with a fully-patched XP install. I can't remember what I changed, but I was messing with the computer one day and all of a sudden it didn't boot on a restart. Tracked it down to my iPod being connected. Disabled booting from USB and other devices in BIOS, but that didn't do the trick.

I'm sure we'll bump into the solution one day.

    Regards,
    Paolo
