Hi Guys,
Just wanted to let you know that I just bought a D630 from the Dell site today, and I was told that it won't ship for another month (9/5/07). I've heard relatively quick turnaround time for these laptops (closer to a week than a month), so they must be on backorder or something.
Just thought I'd let you know!
Jake

That's odd. Were you told that by a person or by the website? I wonder whether it's a certain config option you chose.
-
The website told it to me (on the order confirmation page). While I was configuring the laptop, both screen display options (WXGA and WXGA+) said that it "may delay my order", but I had no idea by this much!
It's really a shame, too. I would've loved to have my laptop *before* I started law school, not a few weeks into it.
-Jake -
On the config page, if you click on "May delay your order", it'll tell you by how many days.
-
yup, swarmer is right.
Then again, mine said it would ship in 19 days, and it was delivered 7 days after I ordered it
that was 3 weeks ago. -
Yup--you're D630 might well ship quite a bit before the estimated ship date. My original estimated ship date was 8/2/07--I received it on 7/24. ( have the WXGA screen though--I know Dell is esimtating longer delays for the WXGA+ screen.)
dordale -
I ordered mine with the WXGA+ on 7/25, and the estimated ship date is still 8/24. When I called Dell, they said the long wait time was for all LCD screens (they didn't differentiate between the WXGA or WXGA+, but I've learned to not give too much creedance to what the customer service reps tell me). Either way, it'd be nice to have the machine soon. Good luck with 1L jakeandbake - do your reading...you'll only get called on if you don't.
-
D630 ordered 07/02, estimated ship date 07/20, received 07/09
-
I think Dell Small Business and maybe the rest of Dell does this as the worst possible scenario.
I ordered late June for a late July ship date, but it shipped 2 weeks earlier, and I have my laptop BEFORE the estimated ship date. -
Ordered August 8th, estimated delivery date of September 3rd. I hope it comes sooner!
-
I ordered mine in early July. Est ship date was July 21. Shipped on July 6.
The video card was a lemon, so Dell is sending a replacement. Ordered on July 31. Est. Shipping date was August 7. Still hasn't shipped. -
Ordered 7/25, supposed to have shipped 8/8, and new date for shipment is now 8/15 on a computer that was supposed to have a build time of 8 days and was assured on multiple occasions by the CSR that there will be nothing delaying shipment of laptop, but I guess the Inspiron and XPS delays would mean delays for all.
-
I ordered mine on 7/25 as well - but it still estimates an 8/24 shipping date. Oh well.
-
Just to update you guys, I heard back from Dell, and they confirmed that it was a backorder on the screen. However, the ship date is just an estimate, and they anticipate sending me my laptop earlier than the supplied date.
Oh, and just for asking, they bumped up my shipping from 3-5 day to next day for free
-Jake -
i ordered mine 8/12 with a ship date of 9/6, i bought the higher res screen.
-
Any news on dell D630 shipping?
Mine is supposed to be shiped on august 31, ordered on august 9th
Im hoping ill get one earlier.....
Anyone have any luck -
dream on,im waiting since 16th july and I just got my third new edd of 6th september
dont believe a word they say,I was told yesterday my laptop is arriving tomorrow then today my date was moved back another 3 weeks -
ouch. looks like I'll be hand-writing my notes for law school for some time to come...
I guess that's the way it's been done for 150+ years, so it can't be all that bad...
-Jake -
Order placed: 30.7.2007
EDD: 21 august
New EDD: 13 sept
That makes it 6 WEEKS waiting time since i placed the order till the laptop arrives. I am so not impressed with dell Austria. By the time i get the laptop it will be ancient. If they change my dd again i am going for an HP which has delivery times in hours not in weeks. -
D630 ordered 24th July, current ESD = 3rd September.
in the UK... -
Ordered D630 7/12/07 ~1:30AM and received it 7/16/2007.
After I placed the order I called Dell the same day as I had questions not answered by the website. I had a pleasant discussion with a Dell cust service rep who upgraded my order to Next Business Day (free of charge) =D -
Look at sig. this sucks what taking so long
-
So the automated order status line changed for me today - the computer is still in "build", but now it doesn't have any info about the estimated shipping date. Maybe it's being delayed again (as today was the original ESD)? That would be awesome. The next time Dell financing wants a payment, I'm thinking about giving them my "estimated payment date":
"This is an estimated date for martin's payment. Please allow 3-5 business days to receive martin's payment. Changing the options on your order may delay the receipt of martin's payment. This date is subject to change without prior notice." -
I ordered a D630 on 8/1 with a ESD of 8/21. 8/21 came and went. New ESD is 8/28. I called to complain, but couldn't get any compensation at all, aside from free next day shipping. *sigh*
I've been in the Build stage for weeks.
Michael -
Hang in there guys, hopefully you get your systems soon -
In the UK:
Ordered: July 23rd
1st EDD: August 13th
2nd EDD: September 3rd
3rd EDD: October 5th
I am now seriously considering cancelling... What i wish the most is that there was some concrete explanation for what's going on, instead of airy fairy rumours and chinese whispers.
It's like when you are waiting for a plane and it comes up "Delayed". If the airline tells you what's wrong, i.e. they had a fault on the plane that they are checking out, at least you know where you are, but with Dell all we get is Delievery dates that continually get pushed back with no explanation at all. I'm really wondering whether I'll actually get this machine at all... in the time it's been on order I'm sure prices will have changed and spec improved. -
Jesus... October 5th. I seriously hope that they get it to you far before then. Have you called to complain yet? You really don't deserve to wait 2-3 months for a laptop you paid good money for
-
well, in (slight) defense of Dell, i know for a fact that NYU Stern recommends/requires their MBAs to purchase D630s, and i'm sure that's the same for many schools as well. i personally received my D630 in mid July and LOVE the machine - hopefully the wait will be worth it for you guys.
-
Updating my earlier post (5 posts above), I was delayed until 9/5 but went into Boxing yesterday. So hopefully it ships on 9/5 if not sooner.
The only bright side is that I'm getting $100 credit for it being delayed the second time.
Michael -
Out of interest, here's the spec I ordered. I don't think there is anything really odd in there.
Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2GHz/4MB/800MHz + integrated graphics
14.1 WXGA+ 1440x900
2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (2x1024MB)
120GB 7200rpm SATA
8x DVD+/- RW
Integrated Bluetooth/Wireless
Vista Business -
Ordered: July 31st
1st EDD: August 28th
2nd EDD: September 25th
I kept an eye on my order status every day as well as the prices for the D630. If you have a check now, Dell changed their prices yesterday and now you can get a higher spec for less money. I decided this was ridiculous, so cancelled my order. I was going to wait for this "WXGA+ shortage" to be resolved (I assumed around end of September) and then re-order.
I have money and want a D630! It's crazy that we can't get any!! -
Update:
Estimated Ship Date 1: 9/5/2007 (today)
Estimated Ship Date 2: 9/12/2007
Who knows what the third one is going to be... -
My ESD is tomorrow, so i am expecting a delay as well.
-
My ESD is tomorrow as well. I called yesterday and the guy told it'd miss the ESD by a few days, but that I should get it by the end of next week (or monday of the following week).
-
-
It looks like they're up to their nasty tricks of shipping recent purchases sooner than those that were made a while ago. I just received a tracking number from DHL for my D630 that I ordered on 8/30, basic specs in my sig. I expect to see my laptop early next week, but hopefully by the end of this one.
-
i am wondering if it is the t7300 cpu that is the hold up on mine now.
-
Hey Wax,
That's crazy! We have just about the same specs... Where are you ordering from? Are you working at a company that's like Dell's most important client?
That's awesome for you though. Let me know how you like your D630!
And, in some way, that gives me some hope... at least it shows they're actually making and shipping the laptops still.
-Jake -
I'm ordering from south-eastern Washington state, and no, I don't have any connections with Dell, it's just for my personal use. Yes, you're right, we have almost exactly the same laptop, when did you order yours? It's unfortunate that someone who orders later would receive their laptop earlier than others who have waited... I do wonder if it's a very particular component that's holding them up. I thought I ordered most of the components that cause the delays though.
I ordered it with 512MB of RAM, upgrading that with 2 more gigs from newegg, but that's about it as far as components I skimped on. Didn't want the discrete graphics. I did order a 6 cell main and a 6 cell media bay battery instead of the 9 cell, but I doubt it's a 9 cell battery that's causing the delays. -
I ordered 8/6 :-/
Maybe its the HD? I got the 120GB / 7200 RPM
But really... who knows how they work?
It's really OK if they can manage to get it out by their second shipping date... but, as of right now, that's a huge if. This certainly doesn't reflect well on them. -
Wow, sorry Jake, you've waited a long time. I also got the 120GB 7200 RPM drive. So... very odd indeed. I wouldn't be afraid to call Dell and ask what's going on, explaining that another customer with virtually the same laptop is receiving his much more quickly. They don't really have a way of confirming that, but I'm sure they know that it's true anyways.
-
I just talked to a dell customer rep. Apparently they're having problems with one of the components of my laptop (wouldn't say which). Don't really believe them... I found this disturbing post elsewhere:
-Jake -
Absurd. Definitely absurd.
-
i am now in the 9/13 club it would appear.
-
In NL:
Latitude D630
Intel Core 2 Duo T7700
2.0GB, DDR2-667 SDRAM
14.1 inch Wide Screen WXGA+ LCD
ordered 07/17
esd 08/15
new esd 09/05
new esd 10/09
I'm pretty grumpy by now. -
Yeah, as bad as I may think I have it, it's pretty clear that Dell is simply sacrificing the rest of its worldwide market (UK, NL, etc.).
Amaze, etc., although I don't know if this will really work, according to "if they waited X amount of time, they're already pissed, so we'll keep on stretching it out and keep our happy customers happy by shipping early" theory, it may actually make sense to cancel and re-order (or, more safely, place a new order for a laptop, and just cancel one or the other when the first arrives).
It's a little risky, but I guess at worst you'll just end up with two laptops and you'll have to send one back.
-Jake -
I called today and consented to the delay. I got an american for once. He said that the problem with the Latitudes with the WXGA+ screen is that one of there vendors for that screen (AUO i assume given the rumor on the board) had power issues last week, and that week and slowed down production. he said to the best of his knowledge that vendor is back up and running at full capacity.
If nothing else he was polite, and did his best to answer my questions, and actually acted like he cared about my situation. and Actually answered my questions with out giving me the same canned answers about my estimated ship date and how they are a mail order company and can not commit to a date.
needless to say i am not as pissed with dell now as i was last night. -
well I've been following the forums for a while and I just decided to register. I ordered a d630 with 2.0ghz, 2 gig ram, vista basic, bt, 120 7200rpm hd, 135m graphics card, and the wxga+ screen on 8/11. I was given an esd of 9/11. I am well aware people have been waiting for much longer than me so I'm not complaining, but I'm leaving for school soon and if my laptop doesn't ship on the 11th I have to cancel and buy a laptop from some retail store.
Right now my laptop is still in the build stage. I'm just wondering if there is any chance my laptop would ship on time? I know it's wishful thinking but this laptop has everything I'm looking for and I don't think I would be very happy with a laptop I had to just settle for. Also the thing about Dell filling later orders to satisfy new customers while customers that ordered before have to wait even longer is absurd. Well I mainly registered to express my dissatisfaction with dell and I've done that. Looks like I'm going to have to get a hp or sony or something. I hope everyone else gets their laptops on time or asap. -
I ordered mine on 7/25, ESD was on 8/23, ESD2 was on 8/30 and on 8/27 was in boxing stage.. I was very suprise when i got email on 8/31 that my laptop will be delayed and ESD3 is on 9/7.. I was complaining a lot in the morning and in the afternoon it was shipped and delivered on 9/4.. Now I´m sooo happy
-
You will be happy with the wait....it is a very impressive laptop.
Mine came in about a week before it was even due to ship out.
Hopefully it is not screens that they are out of..
Best,
Ilham
