Was wondering if there are any D630 owners that can give some pointer as to how much the batterylife will differ if having a x3100 or the nvidia card?

main reason iam asking is because i have been trying to sort out if the D630 supports DVI-D through its dockingstation. Today when i called Dell again and actually talked to the same guy, he asked someone else and they said that the d630 will send out a dvi-d signal once it has been docked, although he didnt say if this was true for both the intel and nvidia..

I don't have a D630, but I have a similarly equipped thinkpad. Mine gets just under 2 hours of battery life, with medium power settings (high brightness, wifi, bluetooth, min cpu and min gpu).

My buddies thinkpad gets over 3 hours with a similar setup, except he has all those things turned off and the x3100. So I would say that the actual gpu is responsible for 40-45 minutes of the extra hour+ of battery life that he has over me.

Supposedly the D630 gets 5 hours or more with the integrated graphics on the 9 cell. So you'd have to do some normalization in order to convert Thinkpad numbers to D630 numbers. Also, the NVS 135M on the D630 is not as fast as the NVS 140M on the Thinkpad, so it may consume less power.

Yeah, my example was running on 4 cell batteries with a slightly more powerful gpu. But remember, that gpus run downclocked in battery mode, so a downclocked 140m is gonna be almost the same as a downclocked 135m. It's when running full speed that they show more of a difference.

I get close to 5 hours battery life on my D630 with Nvidia card. That's with wifi on and screen at a few steps down in brightness.

Thats really good id say, actually ordered myself a D630 yesterday, got tired of my 2 week long searching ;)
    1.8ghz c2d
    2gb ram
    x3100
    9-cell battery

also took the D/port dockingstation. According to the guy at Dell it should support Dvi-D via the dock even with x3100, but ill settle for vga if i have to, cant say i noticed much difference on a 22" 225w samsung with vga

You REALLY should cancel the order for the D/port and get it from eBay. It is an absolute ripoff from Dell. I got my D/Port+Monitor Stand+90W power brick from eBay for 70 bucks. I bet you paid a lot more than that just for your D/Port.

The D/Port does WSXGA just fine via its DVI port. I have a 22" LCD.

Yes, i was hesistant to ordering it from them, and yes it was expensive (about double what you paid just for the dock)

Called the salesguy at dell this morning to cancel the order and take it from ebay, I just have to find a seller willing to ship to sweden, and i need a power adapter, but i have time, about 2½ weeks til the comp arrives :)
