    Ooops![:I] The D800 sports a Tri-Metal case... what is that about? The X300 has the magnesium case. Comments on both appreciated.

    Magnesium-alloy is light weight and strong, tri-metal i don't know, I would think it's a sturdy but heavier style case than the magnesium.

    The Latitude D800 & the Precision M60 have a Tri-metal CHASSIS (not case).
    The lid cover is also made of Tri-Metal.

    Yes; we have several D800s & 8500/9600s at work, and my personal machine is an M60.
