Hi, I was about to purchase latitude d820 with quadro nvs 120 m 512 mb turbocache, (i know what it means, but i like it)

After one week, now, I checked DELL website, dell.com and Latidude d820 isnt offered with ANY graphics option anymore, only the intel's integrated graphics card is selected, as the ONLY choice,

    WHY?

    Thanks!

Are we talking about the D820 or the D830?

The D820 is being replaced by the D830, so the stock parts for the D820 are not being reordered. Dell would just be trying to sell what they have left.

    Its about D820

Can I place a SPECIAL order? pay them more? anything?

I like d820, because of its battery uptime of upto 7 hours, max. (from notebookreviews.com review)

But unfortunately d830 doesnt offer that much battery uptime (from notebookreviews.com review), why?

Anyone knows battery uptime for d830? equal to d820?

    Thanks!

The D830 refresh (Santa Rosa, discrete graphics) rates roughly about 3-4 hours on a 9-cell battery, depending on what you're doing. The (slightly) more powerful NVS140M may be one reason behind the more demanding power consumption. Although one can argue that the Santa Rosa's power efficiency should be able to compensate for that, if not overtake it completely.

Personally, with my tests, I was able to get a maximum of just over five hours of battery life, with all the wireless capabilities (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth) off, the screen brightness set to 2 (1-8) and in Power Saver mode. It's slightly better than expected, but then you don't get all the performance you might be after.

And it's still not as good as the reported 7 hours on the D820.

As for ordering the 820, you might be able to get them on the refurbished section of the site. Or, maybe even better, snag one from E-Bay. You might still be able to find some very decently spec'd units out there. Certainly better than the ones Dell sells out of the refurb page.

It's probably just a difference in how they're measuring battery life.

I think you can opt for the 135M in the D830... right? I don't know if that saves battery or not vs. the 140M, but it should be at least as powerful as the 120M, I would think. Of course the best battery life will be with the integrated graphics (x3100), but if you're playing any games then you won't like that much.

There is a media bay battery option. If freefisheater can get 5 hours on the 9 cell, you could probably get 7 hours with 9 cell main battery + 6 cell media bay battery.
