Hey, this is a bit of a noob question, but what are the differences between these two laptops? I know that the M65 has a better graphics card (and more expensive), but what else? I hear that the two use the same chassis ...
Also, how well does the NVIDIA Quadro FX 350M graphics card perform? Any help is greatly appreciated!

The only differences are the lid and GPU.
Performance-wise the GPU in both laptops are equivilant.
They both score around 1800-2000 in 3dmark05(Quadro FX 350M gets a low score because it only uses 64bit memory)
I don't know the difference in business applications though..

Well.. I was wondering too which one would suit me better.

I would really like to know which one of them has the longer battery life (looking at the reviews the m65 should last 20 minutes longer but i cant believe that!). If i take the d820 with the intel gma graphics on board, will my battery life be pushed too?

Hope somebody could make a good comparison of both laptops, 'cause i am stuck at "d820 or m65". which one shoudl i buy...

Another important thing is the heat & noise. I read reviews about the d820 and the m65. Some say the d820 gehts _really_ hot others say that dell did a great job on reducing the head of the d820... ?? what about the m65? Does it get really hot too? (I already read the reviews from notebookreview.com ^^)

    cya cheza and thanks :)

The main difference is that M65 has been qualified by about 30 independent software vendors (eg: AutoCAD).

The is virtually no information on the Quadro 350 video card, and what there is suggests that it is almost identical to the Quadro 120 that you can put in the D820.

Unless you are into 3D modelling or CAD in a *BIG WAY*, I suspect that the D820 will meet your needs.

I'd just go for the D820. Neither of the GPUs are very powerful, but they're about the same. And the Precision has a premium that you pay for the Precision name and certification.

I'd say it's a toss-up, unless OpenGL is important for some reason. I considered both myself and only bought the M65 because it was the first Dell Outlet M65/D820 I saw with >= T2400 + 2GB RAM + DVDRW + Bluetooth for under $1100. I didn't say much about heat in the review of the M65 because there wasn't too much to say, really: the left bottom gets pretty warm under the HD (maybe too warm for laptop usage, though I haven't had a problem with that), but otherwise it's cool. The 6-cell lasted 2:40 before going into hibernation, as I said, and this was doing nothing to save power. The M65 is great. I don't have a single complaint, and because of the damage to the Outlet machine, I ended up getting a brand-new one. I've never even seen a D820, but they sound almost identical. If I were choosing between the two right now, I'd still base my purchase on price, since OpenGL is not an issue for me.
