I'm going into my first year of college next year and planning on ordering the D830 soon. I was wondering if anyone knew of any special coupons or ways I could recieve a student discount. I got the sales rep to knock off some money on RAM but i still can't find any decent student discounts. Also, is there a certain time i should wait to buy my notebook during the summer where there will be the best deals?

There usually arent any "great" specials going on for the business class laptops. I believe the sales/specials change on thursdays, so if you're not happy with this current deal wait till Thursday to check for a new one. Be sure to get an official quote at today's price so you can still revert to the old deal if Thursday's isnt better. (you do that by calling up a sales rep, getting the price on your exact config, and then politely requesting that they email you a quote, that you'd like to think about it before making your purchase.)

I should remind you that your time is limited if you're starting school in the fall. Shipping dates just keep getting later and later. Dont wait till the last minute, you're gonna want to get to know your laptop before you dive headfirst into college and all that goes along with it.

    Happy D830 Purchasing!

If you plan to carry your laptop with you every where you go, I think the D630 will be a better size.

That is a good point, but at 6 lbs, I dont see it as a great hinderance. I'm willing to lug it around for the extra screen dimensions and more importantly resolution.

Do not forget the starting weight is 6 lbs. The starting weight of a D630 with optical drive and 6 cell battery is 5.1 lbs, but with a 9-cell battery, charger and accessories that weight jumps to about 7 lbs. So the D830 will weigh about 8 lbs with a similar package.

You might consider trolling ebay for some coupons. I ordered a D830 for school on 6/13 using a 30% off coupon I bought on ebay. It wasn't a huge discount compared to the special they were offering, but still worth buying the coupon. (I saved about $100.)

Also, unless you're really wimpy, you won't notice a difference carrying an 830 v 630.

Those 30% coupons never materialized again. There haven't been any substantial promotions since it either. Perhaps on July 10 you'll see some special deals when they reveal the Vostros and tablet.
