Just got a Latitude D830 and running XP SP2. My coworker has same machine on Vista and is able to increase his resolution to 1920xwhatever. I, however, can only go to 1280xwhatever. This is quite annoying. I have checked on Dell and Intel on the drivers to see if newer ones were available and I have the newest.

I then saw that if I hooked a 2nd display up that I have the ability to increase the resolution to the 1920 number. The only real difference I saw between the two listings in the Display Properties was that the 2nd display's monitor was 'Default Monitor' whereas mine was 'Plug and Play Monitor'. Long story short I changed the 3 (why its 3 not sure) installs of Plug and Plug Monitor under Monitor in Device Manager.

This gave me the ability to increase the size however it was doing a Pan and Scan. LOL
I can't seem to win here.

Any suggestions? Its the Intel 965 Express Chipset that I have. Oh and my coworker has the same exact features, only diff is hes on Vista. Because of the clients I have I cant do Vista right now but Im sure there must be a work around here.

    Thanks guys!!

Umm, are you sure that you have the screen that is capable of doing that high resolution? You realize that it's not the chipset that determines the screen's resolution, but the actual screen itself.

I'm betting ur coworker has the high res screen, while you only have the low res screen. That's why he can get the 1900* res and you can only have 1280*.

So long story short, you cannot increase your resolution just because you want to no matter what you do. You are limited by the screen that you purchased, so you either buy a new screen and replace it, or buy a new computer with the high res screen.

although it is possible, we ordered about 30 identical laptops for the entire company so I dont see how its different other than of course Vista. How can I check what 'screen' he has?

Looking up the specs yes I see that there are 3 different screens. I dont know why one employee would get a different screen however. But I guess its definitely possible.

Look on the bill, or receipt, or anything that you got from dell. It should include the specs for the machines.
