It looks like the D830 supports a 34mm express card, and it has a slot for a regular pc card? If I had my cellular express card plugged in (internet access card,I use in remote areas), it looks like it would block my ability to plug-in headphones or a mic or external speakers. Is this true from anyone that might know? I am looking to purchase SOME laptop in the next week, and am having trouble narrowing it down because of small issues like these. Any help would be appreciated, THANKS in advance.......

I thought the D830 has both card slots. I'll check a D820 tonight and see.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
The D820/D830 support 34mm express cards and regular PC cards. The 34mm express card is slot fits wider-than-34mm express cards as well.
The express card slot is directly under the headphone/speaker jack, so if you've got an express card that sticks out of the slot, it may block the jacks.
The PC card slot is horizontally removed from the headphone/speaker jack, nothing you put in there should interfere with either. -
Yes, my express card (Novatel X720 EVDO Express card) WILL stick out (and up) a little.... I think it may block the audio jacks....... ? Can anyone verify this?

If this is the card and that bulge faces upwards, it will block the jacks. -
thanks Commander Wolf..... Yep, that looks like my card .... DARN, guess I'm not gonna get the Dell.(Probably just as well, I've had problems with them,(cust. service and the hardware)) Looking at the Lenovo T61 too, Jacks are also in the side, but should not interfere with eachother...... hmmmmm, then there is always the MacBook Pro, but not sure how well I would transition to their OS. Norrowing the search though

Yup...the D830 has both slots. Pretty sure it is a 54mm EC slot too.

Another option: For about $30 you can buy a small USB audio adapter and plug it in to any USB port.

I'm not 100% sure, but don't those adapters disable the volume control buttons on your notebook? I think you have to access their "proprietary" controls (that came with the mfgs. software) on your screen to make any adjustments. If that were the case, then making quick adjustments may not be as convenient as the mute button or volume button already on yhe keyboard. hmmmm, I'm gonna look into it though. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hmmm... I'm not sure.
