    Hey there,

I am looking for a new notebook and I can't decide wether to buy the XPS 16 or the Latitude E6400. I will need the notebook for both university (web browsing, office) and leisure purposes (watching movies, tv, listening to music). I need a solidly built notebook as I travel every few weeks.

Why I consider the XPS 16:

    - Subwoofer: My current notebook is a Latitude D630 and I absolutely hate the speakers. Without external speakers there is no pleasure in listening to music.
    - Great screen; nice for watching movies

My concerns regarding the XPS 16 are:

    - Heat; fan activity; noisy
    - Battery duration

Why I consider the Latitude E6400:

    - I own the predecessor D630 and it is a solidly built system
    - Nice battery duration

    My concerns regarding the E6400:

    - Lousy speakers once again
    - Not as stylish as the XPS 16

Can anyone compare those two notebooks and help me with my decision? Thanks so much in advance!

    Bye, Alex

the e6400 is a much better built computer than the XPS seriers. I have a e6400, I don't own a XPS model but I have seen them at the stores. Cheap is the first thing that came to my mind. Costume jewerly like.

yes the e6400 has lousy speakers and it is not the most stylist one out there, but it is a very good build. I also have a lenovo t61, I would give it a slight edge over the e6400 because of the roll cage design. Don't know if the newer t400 have those.

    the e6400 has terrible flex
and the xps 16 has one of the worst cooling systems ever

m4400 did you look at it?

The E6400 does not have terrible flex. At least, the three I've used don't.

I would go for the Studio XPS 16. It's not quite as rock solid as the Latitude series, but it's still pretty sturdy in its own right. And it's a definitely an attention-getter.

Well i didnt own a e6400 but there was a vid on youtube 2mins or so which showed the quality, cant find it now, ill get back to you tomorrow if its found

If you dont mind temperatures and noise + overall quality from the notebook then There are no problems with the XPS for you

Maybe you are thinking of the older Inspiron 6400?

Yeah...if you don't own the notebook either backup the statements or don't post about it. Otherwise you are just as bad as 50% of the NewEgg reviews where the people don't actually own the product but review it anyway just because they love or hate the company.

As for flex on the Latitude E6400...no significant flex anywhere. Not to mention the business support is definitely worth it.
