    Experts,

    I am looking at a Dell Latitude D630 (as well as a Lenovo T61). One of the options relates to the monitor. What is the difference and is it worth it?

    14.1 inch Wide Screen WXGA LCD Panel [Included in Price]
    14.1 inch Wide Screen WXGA+ LCD Panel [add $30]

    WXGA and WXGA+ is the resolution.

    WXGA = 1280x800
    WXGA+ = 1440x900

    It is the spec that shows how many lines can fit on the screen and how much pixel density you have.

    Higher resolution summary:
    + Can fit more on screen at one time. Helps when you have to use multiple windows at one time, with large spreadsheets, coding. You have a lot of screen realestate.
    + Images, video, text appear more crisp and fine.
    - Text appears smaller than with low res screen

    I suggest you do some research on this site and on the web trying to find pictures of these screens so you know how large, fine, etc things are. Also try to find a store selling laptops with these resolutions on a 14.1" screen and see which one you like for yourself. Personally I like higher res screens since I can fit more than one window on the screen at a time, which I find really helpful.

    The difference is mainly about resolution:
    The WXGA is 1280x800, and the WXGA+ is 1440x900 in both I believe. The WXGA+ allows to fit more on the screen though everything is a little smaller.

    The Lenovo T61 WXGA+ screen is also a little brighter (200 or 220 nits) compared to the WXGA (180-185 nits). It is the same for both in D630.

    I have used both and liked the D630 WXGA. But that is just personal preference - unlike me a lot of people some like/ need higher resolution screens.

    By the way, I hope you know that both Dell and Lenovo are supposed to introduce new models soon (Latitude E series, and the new T series).
