What do you prefer to use? The pointing stick or the mouse pad?

My old Latitude C640 has a pointing stick and a pad, and I definitely use the pad. I just can't get used to the stick. My neighbor uses the stick though, so to each his own...

I use both: the touch pad for general navigation, and I have the pointing stick set for scrolling. I do still use the touch pad for scrolling, but sometimes the stick is handier and faster.

The reason I ask is, although I find it easier to type and 'mouse around' with the pointing stick, I find it easier to use the touch pad to scroll and it takes me two times longer to point with the stick : unless I do a 2 handed operation (right index to move the stick and the left thumb to click.

The stick is much more accurate than the pad.

I mouse with the stick and scroll with the pad. I also usually use a two handed method, right index controls the stick and the left thumb hits the button. Unless I am shift clicking to open in a new tab, then the right hand does both.

This is a flaw with Dell's implementation of the pointing stick that IBM/Lenovo solved long time ago with the middle button/scroll button. Some of the HP's with trackpoints now have three buttons as well.
