I'm looking at buying a Dell Latitude X1, but I need to know if the 3-cell and 6-cell batteries have the same footprint (i.e. if they the same size). I plan on spending quite a bit of time unplugged, so I like the larger battery capacity, but I'd prefer a battery that does not stick out the back like some of the larger batteries on Inspirons do.

    Thank you.

AFAIK, the 6-cell sticks out while the 3-cell is flush. On the D420, the 4-cell and 6-cell are flush, and the 9-cell sticks out front.

    Thanks for responding.

Any idea how long a 3-cell battery would last with a bare-bones configuation (512mb memory, 1ghz, etc.)?

From what I've read, I would expect around 2:30 on average with WIFI on and moderately reduced brightness. Abour 3 hours is possible with WIFI off.
