Is the Latitude lighter and thinner than the Inspiron line...?

    I'm looking at a D830...

Latitude is for business users; and it is lighter overall.

The latitude series are built slightly more solid, have less multimedia features like the built in card readers, and business orientated graphics cards. They work with accessories more known to be used for business users like modular drive bays and docking stations. They are also not sold thru dell home.

Yeah. The Latitudes also have matte screens, where the Inspirons have glossy screens (although there's a matte option on some of them). The Latitudes are also a bit thinner. I would say the Latitudes are quite a lot more solid, as they have a magnesium alloy chassis, where the Inspirons have a plastic shell. (That said, I have an Inspiron and it's held up pretty well over the last couple years... just treat it nicely.)

Also, the Latitudes are generally a little more expensive, and they generally come with a 3-year warranty standard.

I have never put them on a scale but I can offer this bit of information.

I own an E1505 and my friend owns a 6400.

They are both configured almost exactly. Same screen. I dont have DVD-R but he does. I have the x1400 and he has the x1300. I have a 60gig hd and he has a 100gig hd.

I have held both computers at the same time and it seems to me that the E1505 is definately heavier than the 6400. I dont have numbers for you but I switched hands so each hand held each laptop and it would seem to me that the E1505 is definately heavier.

Maybe my E1505 is so much heavier because I have more movies and mp3s on my HD and his is brand new and almost empty except the OS.

Thats a joke by the way.
