I am almost set on buying a D830 soon, but just realized the the Latitude line does not have the TrueLife screen. I really like the sturdier build of the D830/D630 over the inspirons (though I have not seen the new 1520), as well as the improved keypad. However, the screen is important to me, and I really don't want to sacrifice screen quality.

I will probably buy the WUXGA screen in either case -- I use it on my i8500 now, and with dpi adjustments, it's not too small for my eyes (I like the extra excel productivity). Though, I have considered "downgrading" to the WSXGA+. In either case, how much brighter/better of a screen is the TrueLife Inspiron Screen vs. the Latitude screen?

Will the new latitude screen be significantly brighter than my 3.5-year-old Inspiron8500? If the new Inspiron will be significantly better, I will consider waiting for the 1520 and not jumping on the D830 right away.

I'll never understand why Dell won’t put their best screens in their top end laptops... Can you? Anyone?

And yes, TrueLife is better! Brighter, better contrast, live colours... if you work outside you may find shiny screen irritating but inside it's fine

But other than screen my vote goes for Latitude…

Any specific figures on brightness of the 2 screens?

Will the brightness of my new D830 be noticeably better than the brightness of my Inspiron 8500?

Hi.I bought 2 month ago Inspiron 6400 with WSXGA+ display.I just return it,because it has "sparkling effect" screen(Samsung LCD).So I think, that Truelife can't be the best choice.I saw at my friend same Inspiron with WXGA+ Truelife screen, and it is brigth and clear-nice!

I vote for the D830 with the WUXGA resolution.

Man, I was just considering switching back to the WSXGA+. It'll be tough to get used to the decreased productivity at first, but I feel that it'd be better for my eyesight in the long run

    Second thoughts...

Anyone have specific figures on brightness/other specs between the TrueLife WSXGA+ vs. the Latitude WSXGA+?

Yes, screen specs would be very nice. I'd be most interested to know the contrast, brightness, and response times of both the E1505 and D830 if anyone has this info. Thanks!

    - Manufacturer: Sharp
    - Model: LQ154M1LW02
    - Response Time: 25ms
    - Contrast Ratio: 400:1
    - Color: 256k (16.2mil w/ dithering)
    - Screen Size Ratio: 16:10
    - Resolution: 1920x1200

These are the specifications of the panel my D810 has. I don't know what the brightness is but I would put it somewhere between 150 and 180 nits.

I remember reading that the D830 screen was 200 nits, but I haven't seen any other specs...

    What's the nits/contrast/response time of an E1505, WXGA+ or WSXGA+?

I would hope that Dell has updated the specs on the D830 since the D810 then. 25ms response time is pretty awful by today's standards, though I do know you can't get the same sort of quality in a laptop screen (though I don't really understand why not). Have they yet to make a laptop with a true 16.7 million color (8 bit) panel?

I thought I read somewhere on this forum that the Latitude screens are not as good (or bright?) as the Inspirons w/ Truelife?

I'd be really shocked if it didn't. Doesn't the whole XPS line have truelife/glossy screens now?

Supposedly Sony used 8-bit TN panels in their A and AR series. As far as any other manufacturer, I doubt that they do. I have seen some Acer laptops that advertise 8ms response time, but other than that most manufacturers seem to not even care about the type or quality of the panel they use, or it specifications freely published either...

More than likely, the latitude would be using the same type of panel as the inspiron, except it would not have the glossy coating or it might only use one CCFL in its backlight instead of two, to save on battery life.
