Will either of those systems come with gigabit ethernet? It seems that it's about time for gigabit ethernet to become standard on all systems.

Wow.. this article actually says the 1525/1526 are upgrades to the current 1520/1500 Inspiron/Vostro. Thanks for this article since the pics are better then the Engadget release. You can now plainly see the headphone jacks are now up front which I sort of figured from the Engadget photo. Also, it appears the speakers are now on top under the LCD.. another nice move IMO. Heck, this is looking more like a HP dv6500t if you ask me.. and thats a good thing since I feel HP had a better design for a 15" notebook. This might be better since the Dell will probably have room for the beefy 8600 GT. With HDMI and the faster gpu and improved design.. especially with the new headphone jack layout this looks very promising.

On the other thread Andrew mentioned that this would NOT be released this year. But like Engadget leak, this also says mid Dec. Neither of the leaks or Andrew have mentioned why mid Dec or next year. But since Andrew is a top mod on this site and reviews many new systems, I tend to believe his sources.. whatever they may be. Therefore I doubt we will see this before January but hopefully it does ship earlier since this is an improved design with added functions.

I doubt we will see them this year. New models increase sales, and the sales are already going great because of the holiday. There is no need for them to increase them right now.

Well, ok. We should probably just wait on initial releases, right? I agree with you. Just wait until the coupons come out...

Sorta reminds me of a certain idiot roommate of mine who a year and a half ago (or was it 2?) spent $3,000 on a Macbook Pro RIGHT when it was first released with Intel Core 2 Duo processors...sadly, the price steadily plummeted pricewise over the months. I didn't say anything, but I did get a nice laugh at the effectiveness of Apple's market machine on dumb people...

Well I ain't pissed off lol... ah well that's technology for ya.

Looks like the 1420 sized up pretty much, and a pinch of HP sprinkled into that mix.

zeth006, you wouldn't believe how crappie shiny Apple products, with the aid of their marketing; can drive people to buy just because it exists. The cute part is they feel scammed 70 days to 3 months later but won't admit it. LOL

I am confused I thought the 1520 had the 8600gt already. My 1520 has a 8600gt in it.

I went to the translated French site and so far the 1525 comes with integrated graphics with the strongest processor being 2.0ghz. Maybe I am to quick to jump to conclusions but it seems like a compromise b/w the 1420 and 1520 in terms of performance. I was really hoping it woulda been a whole new design but it looks far too similar to the 1420.

Another thing I don't understand is why people are saying that they are waiting for the 1525 instead of the 1520. If it is smaller wouldn't performance be compromised? If the 8800 is stronger than the 8600 card wouldnt it require more room to fit in the more powerful card? Is it possible they increased performance while minimizing the size within the lifespan of the current Inspirons????

The ONLY differences, as far as i am aware, between the 1520 and 1525 are:
    -Re-arranged ports(headphones are upfront)
    -addition of HDMI
-Media direct buttons are now in the same sport as the 1420

Everything else you hear is speculation. I'm under the impression the redesign was because of flawed audio jack placement in the 1520(too much EMI) and because they were offering a high def. format player, but no HDCP enable port to output to a bigger screen(which was an even bigger problem since the high quality panels they put in the actual laptops had a habit of looking grainy)

Its deff. worth holding off on a laptop purchase for these, but if you already ordered one, its not like you are missing out on too much provided you didnt get a blu-ray drive or use the headphone jacks.

lol.. I don't know why people call the head phone jack a design flaw issue. My system has a tiny, very tiny buzz in the head phones. I only heard it once a blue moon very faintly.

I took my laptop a part for one of my regular deep cleanings, I put the wires in the proper place where the lined guides says the wire should be and re-taped them down and I had no more buzz or anything afterwards.

I think they just put the machines together to fast which is why the wires are not exactly in the guides and they must be hitting something to cause the noise. But that's just a speculation.

Truth is, since I moved the wires where they should have been when I cleaned out my notebook (dismantled it completely) the minor problem was gone.

On a side note, that new Inspiron looks like a XPS M1330 that's Inspiron-sin-i-zed. I guess Dell are gonna suck all the thunder out of that amazing design as much as possible.

Ok, I really want the first 2 options. W/ the old 1500, you have the hissing sound as a result of bad MB.

I'm thinking the 1720/1700 will be updated as well since leaving the HDMI out of the larger brother would make no sense. But maybe Dell will leave the 1420 as is? What makes sense is they upgrade all the inspirons with HDMI since HP already does this with their DV series 14,15,17" notebooks. But if they only update the 1520 then it would be pretty obvious they redesigned the 1520 for the jack placement issue. If I were in the market for a 1520 I would surely wait for the 1525. Having HDMI and a stronger GPU then the HP dv6500t will put pressure on HP to redesign their case to fit the larger GPU.
