So I've had my brand-new Dell Inspiron 1501 for a little over a month, and only occasionally used the touch-pad mouse, usually using my Logitech MX518 USB mouse instead, however today, I had tried using my touch-pad mouse and the left-click would only respond occasionally, sometimes it just wouldn't do a damn thing! I do frequently clean the chassis of my case with a glass polisher, and am now worried I got some inside the case and it's ****ing around with the left-click button, can anyone make any suggestions on what I can do? I am not %100 positive that is the problem at all, but I might aswell try cleaning it out before I send it back to Dell. Thanks a bunch!

Well, I think the answer to this problem is simply to take off the palmrest/touchpad assembly and see if there's anything stuck there. There's plenty of documentation on how to do this on the Dell support site.

BTW, don’t use strong detergents to clean your notebook, especially the LCD. Some Glass cleaners have chemicals like ammonia which may damage/wear off the paint on your notebook. If you really need to use a cleaning liquid, then only use certified electronic/computer cleaning solutions. I only use a soft cloth (sometimes with a bit of water), for me that does the trick.

Mine stopped working all together and I clean my 1501 with a damp not wet cloth. Must be a design flaw. I am going to be sending mine back for repair. So I don't think it has anything to do with moisture. Laptops should be able to handle small amounts of moisture.

I could see getting the button to "stick" due to a buildup of cleaning agent (... glass polisher?!?) but I think it would be hard to corrode (or otherwise ruin) the connector. There is always the possibility that the connector(s) are partially loose, which is what happened to this member...
