Question: when you guys order a laptop from Dell, how long does it take to move past from the "Order Processing" stage? They say it usually takes one business day, depending on if they get approval of the credit card funds. If it takes longer, does that mean there's something wrong with my credit card and I have to call in to Dell and approve the order over the phone or something?

I am only guessing here -- but the person who is a pro at all this is SouthernGirl. You might also look at other threads or do a search on this.

Sometimes Dell might need to contact the cc company (or you) to get approval for such a big charge (your notebook). Sometimes, the cc was declined, and it may take some time for you to know this.

If it's denied, then Dell will contact you. Then you'll need to call your credit card company to tell them that you're making a big purchase (they'll ask for the amount and vendor). After that, you'll call Dell and tell them to rerun the charge. It doesn't take that long, but it's just one of those things. Sometimes when making a big purchase I call the credit card company ahead of time to let them know so that they don't deny it.

Thats very smart I never thought of calling the card company ahead of time and letting them know.

Mine also passed order processing but is "stuck" at pre-production. I wonder why it's taking so long.

Wow, well that's strange. Apparently though, the problem for me seems to be the fact that I'm shipping it to a different address than my billing address, so I called them and asked them about the hold-up and they just wanted to confirm the addresses. Also, someone will be calling me later today to confirm the order. For security reasons, I presume.

Did you order a C2D machine? I bet there are huge stock problems. I don't think Intel can produce these chips fast enough.

I chose a CD, and will upgrade next year or so. I need my laptop like right now asap.
