It's not always Dell who "makes a mistake"..So try and change your wording a bit. There are SEVERAL delivery couriers that give a **** LESS about your package and throw them around or whatever (not entirely blaming them, but your laptop is tested WORKING before it leaves).

It's like selling on ebay for them..you hit or miss.

Things leave peoples houses working, and arrive broken. You're almost better off to deliver such a package yourself to ENSURE the state of the object when it arrives.

Yeah tell me about it... The last PC that I ordered from Dell arrived with a big hole in the box. It looked like it got hit by a small cannon or something. Luckily Dell packs them well and there was no problems or damage to the actual unit.

Yep..my point EXACTLY. they don't care about you, or whats in that box. They're getting paid to throw stuff.

packaging damage could be a result of the actual shipment process versus Dell's lack of care. ahhh, I just read the post by b0r and I agree with him.

The only thing I can complain about, in concern of actual product defect, is the placement of the Inspiron sticker and OS sticker... they were slightly crooked and the wording came off quite easily. Other than that, I've never experienced any ill fate from ordering a computer from Dell. Now how I treat my laptops/computers is a different story...yes, yes, i've been known to abuse a few computers in my past (cuff me up!) But I've come to learn the value of computers and no longer treat them harshly :)

Now, a refurbished product may be different, but even then you know you are getting a used product and should expect some wear & tear.

Regardless of it all, if you purchase a warranty then it shouldn't matter. I also believe that if you have a problem with your product upon receiving it, call dell because they are good about compensation.

I agree its more the carrier than Dell themselves. I sent out a palm treo to an ebay buyer. They recieved a beat up box that was retaped, and completely different item inside. Reported it to UPS store I shipped it from and they also told me they sent a electronics package to NY that was emptied before it got to its destination.

Mine was really a problem that existed before shipping.

I had one stuck white pixel. It was always white, and very distracting during movies.

I know that it isn't consider "broken" unless there are 6... but that's a bunch of BS. I sent it back.

I got a Blue Screen of Death when Windows Vista started for the first time on my Inspiron 1520. Is that's Windows's fault?

Well I don't put all the blame on DELL. But just ask for problems that are directrly from the factory itsrelf, not because of the delivery.

wouldn't that have been cool? If you found a cannonball inside? (assuming, the computer still worked, of course.)

No, I actually refused the replacement (because it was an e1505 and the new 1520 models came out).

I contacted customer support a second time a couple days after UPS picked up the laptop to make sure i was going to get the FULL refund, and they did give it to me.

I ended up getting a vostro 1400 second time around... still waiting for it ;-)

You probably read about mine. Mine was shipped from the factory broken. The lcd screen basically doesnt turn on (bad inverter).

My replacement was supposed to ship today but was delayed due to the 1280 x 800 screen not in supply.

I have already been billed by dell and customer support refuses to do anything about it. I am thinkling of contacting the NY attorney generals office because they billed me and I have no product to show for it.
