I understand that there's not yet any official information about the price of M1330, but we can make reasonable guesses.
My expectation is somewhere around $1299 as the starting price. I think the reason why DELL uses such a mediocre GPU is that they want to make m1330 pretty much the same price as that of m1210 when m1210 first came out.
What do you think?
I am getting this laptop regardless of its price (If the design in the pictures is real and the build is sturdy), because I already put my m1210 (as in my signature) on sale on eBay. If this turns out to be a bad laptop, then I may need to buy my m1210 back lol
-
$1299 basic would be my guess, and that's with a low end CPU, 512mb RAM, no LED screen, x3100 integrated graphics.
It'd jump to at least $2000 for a midend CPU, 2gb RAM, LED screen and the 8400GS. The 8400GS is a pretty good card in its category, I'd expect the Sony SZ and ASUS W7s both have the same 8400GS. -

I think with good options and LED screen it should cost about $1700-$1800.
EDIT: I voted stupid. You are asking for the staring price. Sorry. Take away my vote for $1500-$1700 in your head. Subtract one from that total. I think the starting price will be about $1100-$1200. -

What was ASUS thinking? They normally use a high quality video cards. Even the Dell Latitude D630 has the 8400 GS.

Like others have said, around 1.3k for the basic config. I am hoping their will not be a big jump in going to a LED display(after all, apple was able to add it to the macbook pro, along with other sizable upgrades without raising the price) but with dell you never know. They are after all asking people to spend an additional 100$ to go from a x1400 to a go7400(more money for less power?)
I'm hoping to config. one with:
LED display
1 gig of ram(god i hope they offer 1 dim, so i can just add another one myself, rather then replace both to get it up to 2 gigs)
160gig 5400rpm drive
8400gs
2.2ghz core2duo
for a *bit* over 2k canadian... but i doubt it.
On a diff. note, who here is planning on getting one as SOON as it hits the stores? I really don't want to get mine before a comprehensive review hits the net, and I'm hoping a few people here agree to be everyones guinea pig and does a full/quick review. I would be pretty irritated if I just spent all the cash I was saving for my new laptop, only to find out the first run of units are painfully defective, but not enough to warrant a recall(like the first macbook pros) -
I don't think Dell is going to price itself out of the market with this one. You can config a pretty nice T61 for less than $1300.
I'm guessing a $1000 starting price for CCFL, 60gb hdd, 512mb ram, Vista Home Basic, 802.11b/g, x3100, and ~1.86ghz c2d.
LED backlighting will probably tack on another $70 or so, dedicated graphics maybe $120, standard pricing for the other usual options. I'm curious as to what they'll price SSDs at. 32gb, basically the minimum usable amount, retails for about $500 now. I can't imagine Dell getting that great of a volume discount this early on in SSD production. -
All decked out I'm thinking $2,500
-
I think 1400-1500 for a decent build w/ coupon applied
-
-
I have $1800 for it.. hope to get a T7500 + 2 gb + 8400 G + LCD, however i doubt .. cuz almost the same spec W7s is $1700 (t7500, 1.5gb, 8400G, 6 and 9 cell battery) ..
-
I guess this poll is not that informative since most people don't realize that they should vote for the STARTING PRICE. I can't imagine a 1700+ starting price...
-
I'm guessing $1399 base price, going up to around 1800 with the 2GB/LED/8400M, and well over 2k fully decked out.
-
I would expect the starting price to be $999-$1,299. I hope to configure a M1330 with Vista Premium, T7500, 8400M GS, LED LCD, 1 GB RAM, 80GB 5400rpm HDD, 1 GB Turbo Memory, and various accessories for roughly $1900 minus 6% MPP discount and 3% cash back from my credit card, bringing a total out-of-pocket price of $1732 plus tax (darn Dell for building one kiosk in my state!)
I plan to upgrade the RAM to 2GB and the HDD to 120GB 7200rpm SATA 2.5 myself to save about $150. -
I'm hoping to get mine for around 1500$. T7300(atleast), the least amount of ram (I just bought 2 gigs off newegg for 80$.) The LED screen and hopefully 6 & 9 cell batteries with BlueTooth. I'll being going integrated beings as how I already have a "gaming laptop".
-
I'm also guessing $2500 loaded. I am waiting to see if this one will have the docking port on the bottom. If it does I will be getting one fully loaded.
Does anyone have a link that tells more about this LED LCD? Sounds interesting. -
i may not buy it for more then $1700.
-
Anyone knows about how much extra the LED display will cost?
Have a "HomePC" deal throo my work, but I cant figrue out the specs before its released the 27. of June. The model I can buy cost 2,131.73 USD, keep in mind that this price is with no discount, and computers are very expensive in Norway.
It got these knows specs (dont know if they are final):
Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 (1,8GHz, 800FSB, 2MB L2 cache)
2048MB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (2x1024) (2 SoDIMM slots, max 4GB)
120GB (5.400RPM)
128MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 8400M GS
Hight front: 37mm
Chipset Intel® 965PM Crestline
8-i-1 Memorycard reader
2 Megapixel webcam (640x480 @ 30FPS)
8X DVD+/-RW ”dual-layer”
ntegrert 10/100 Mbit
Intel Wireless NextGen 802.11n
Bluetooth
Firewire
TouchPad
9-cell Lithium Ion
Weight form 1,88 kg
Black Color
S-Video, 4 USB 2.0, VGA, HDMI
Microsoft® Windows Vista Home Premium Norsk
But thats all I know..
Hoping that its with the LED Screen!
The downsides are T7100, slow disk and no DVI.
Im gettting it for about $1,300 so I feel that I just cant by another computer (wanted the T61p 14" WS BAD!) -
Ok, so I might get flamed for this comparison, but I've been doing a little snooping around on the MacBook Pro. Their new line is out with LED backlighting and 8600M GT graphics card, both in the 128MB and 256MB variants. These also have LED backlit keyboards, something that no one else seems to be currently offering. No, I do not like Apple and will probably never own one, but I can't help but feeling why can they do it right and no one else can? The MacBook Pro is all-aluminum construction, which I would think helps to greatly dissipate heat and therefore keep the notebook thin and light. Hopefully we'll find the same with the M1330 and not just a pseudo aluminum covering over plastic like on the Sony SZ.
The lowest end MBP comes with an LED backlit 15.4" WXGA+ screen, DVI out, backlit keyboard, 8600M GT 128MB, 2GB RAM, 120GB HDD, and 9 cell battery. With student discount, it comes to $1799. But you also get a free 4GB Ipod Nano with rebate. Now I'm sure people will cry foul here, but if you sell this regularly $200 Ipod for say, $150 on Ebay or something of the sort, this essentially brings the price to $1650.
I am sorry to sound so pessimistic, but it's likely that the M1330 will not shape up to be all of the above in a number of ways, as we keep seeing PC notebook manufacturers skimping on the things consumers want in the end. But let's assume it's all aluminum, well made, etc. If Apple can offer such a notebook (and with a much beefer GPU) for around $1650 (sorry if you disagree with this figure), I think Dell should be very much ashamed for offering the M1330 for anything more than $1400-1500.
Oh yeah, and the MBP base model comes with a T7500 (2.2GHz) as opposed to the T7100 (1.8GHz) suggested here. Get with it Dell and everyone else. If you don't start playing some catch-up Apple will really start stealing major market share. -
Rowen, i made the same point on digg, and my comment was marked as spam
You are totally right though. Apples are no longer expensive. Hell, configuring the M1210 to the same specs as a macbook(non-pro) will end up being more expensive then a macbook. Dell's may be built cheaper, but they sure as hell arnt sold cheaply anymore, unless you get their cheapest inspiron options.
-
-
I think Dell knows how the consumers are. If you're pro-PC, you're not gonna get a Mac no matter how expensive the PC notebooks get. So Dell can price as high as they desire and still get their notebooks sold. They're not scared
Let's say the m1330 does get into the 1300-1500 range as start price.. Will it stop you from buying it? What other 13.3" notebooks have that same or similar specs? You might see some at 14.1" and definitely 15.4" range with similar or better specs, but as 13" there will be very little competition and even with SZ being updated, Dell will still be lowered-price than Sony. It's always been the case...
-
Well to be honest, and I hate myself for saying it, but if I can't get a GREAT deal on a D830 and if the M1330 goes above $1400 (maybe $1500) for similar specs as what a MacBook Pro is offering....I might seriously consider buying a MBP. Afterall, Apple does make it a lot easier for getting Windows on their machines now.
I gave up on the idea of the 1520, but perhaps will consider the 1420 as a viable option. Let's hope that Dell does right by this M1330, and at an affordable price. -
Well, I am seriously considering a MacBook Pro for it has the 8600m GT instead of a 8400m GS... But m1330 is still my top choice if the price is right.
-
-
XPS is top of the line for Dell consumer-wise and one has to pay a premium in order to get their hands on any of the products in that line. The only reason m1210 has dropped so much in price in general (especially through AAFES) is because of the upcoming m1330.
-
But if their so called "premium" line still falls short of what others are offering, there's no reason to be asking anywhere near the same price. One could make the argument that since the M1330 is a 13.3" and therefore the smaller size requires something extra to fit it all in a small form factor. But nevertheless, it is only offering the 8400M GS which may be weaker than the ATI X1400. It will not come standard with 2GB Ram like the MBP and I'm sure it won't be in an entirely aluminum case either. I suppose the Apple laptops have moved beyond what they once were, and aside from the operating system (which we know can be used in conjunction with Windows), it really can be examined side-by-side with a PC notebook. They use the same components afterall.
Dell was once a very expensive computer company compared to any other consumer line. Of course this is not the Dell of today which prides itself as a price leader. They can't have it both ways. If they want to skimp on technologies and other aspects of their computers, they need to be overly competitive in their prices. -
Uh... there's a few things to keep in mind here.
Nobody, Apple or anyone else, has managed to get a 8600 GT into a 13" laptop. Dell is not skimping here; there's a limit to what they can get in a 13" machine.
Yeah the MBP is better in every way but portability... of course it is! It's a 15.4".
If Apple made a 13.3" MBP it would be a lot like the M1330 (in terms of hardware). If the lower size and weight is not important to you, then by all means get a 15.4" such as MBP. Keep in mind that Apple does sell a 13" laptop with models ranging from $1100-$1500 and they all have integrated graphics only (and no LED screen).
As far as saying Apple isn't expensive because there's the student discount, please realize that not everyone is a student! If you are a student, then yes, Apple has some good deals for you.
In terms of Dell not being able to "have it both ways" by being the low-cost leader and selling expensive machines like the M1330... actually, they can have it both ways. That's why they started the XPS line. Inspiron = low cost; XPS = premium stuff. We don't know what the M1330 will cost yet, but I expect the price to be compare equally or favorably with other 13" models with graphics cards, such as Sony SZ or Asus W7.
I'm not trying to bash Apple, by the way. I mean personally, between these two, I would choose the MBP. But that's because I like a larger screen and the MBP is small and light enough for my own needs. But other people have different priorities. I really don't think the two machines are comparable at all. For people who place a higher priority on size and weight than I do, the M1330 looks like it could be a great choice. When Apple produces a 13" laptop with dedicated graphics, then it will make more sense to compare them. -
-
Guys quick question, do u think the 8400 gs can run flight simulator 9 (2004) with good settings?
-
i'm sure with that gone they could fit the cooling in, they can offer an external CDROM for 100$ or something. I think the optical drive is the least used part of the laptop.. i might be wrong but i've never seen anyone in our office using them ( except to install the OS, once thats on they're good for nothing )
-
-
first thing that goes on after a game is installed is the noCD crack, I can't take a bunch of CD's with me on the road, I just want a small laptop with a huge battery, HD and graphics card
the m1330 is going to fit the bill.. better graphics would be nice though so I can continue to clean up in Counterstrike wherever I am.
I currently have a ASUS A8Jm and it is a little big for the plane, the hinge design and smaller screen on the m1330 look like they'd fit better. -
-
This new m1330 sounds very much like the Sony SZ Premium laptops.
Does anyone know what the major differences are between the two? -
Homer_Jay_Thompson blathering blatherskite
I think the Dell XPS M1330 will have a more durable case than the Sony SZ.
-
-
It's interesting that their seem to be people who actually believe this laptop will start at 1700$+. I hope they're wrong..
-
i hope this costs less than the sz...
-
Does anyone know if this model come out in Canada around the same time, I was going to buy the 1210 but I think I will wait and see what the cost of this one will be. I think it will start around $1200.00
-
I seriously am hoping that the start price is either the same as the current one or only a little big higher. My bro wanted to get an XPS M1210, then I researched and found out about the right-around-the-corner XPS M1330. So, we will see when it comes out.
By the way, if my brother isn't such a hardcore gamer and will only play games like Command and Conquer 3 and F.E.A.R. on low settings if needed, would the 8400M GT be sufficient? -
Yes the 8400M Gt will be enough. Or at least better than the 7400Go that the m1210 has now!
-
M1330 will have 8400M GS, not 8400M GT.
-
You need to remember that the M1210 started @ $1,321 and I'm sure the M1330 will be more than that. Those hoping it will be less are in for a surprise I'm sure.
-
The m1330 is an obviously deliberate attack against the Sony SZ Premium and other similar 13.3" models. Dell would be nuts to price it at $2,500 if they expect the masses to buy this over the competition. -
I think base it will be $1500-$1700
Well equipped it could reach $2,500 that's for sure. -
I agree with fusion. Barebones, with the lowest it offers should be around 1500. If you want a real powerful system, expect close to 2000 or above.
Let's guess the price of M1330
