    Hi Thanks for your reply.

I want to use my laptop for e-mail, browsing, picture editing, vedio editing , and MS office applications. I can spend up to 1300$ .
I have chance to buy in US, through my friends .

Can I expect a good laptop to survive morethan 5 years,
    please suggest some good notebooks,

    Thanks

Buying a well built laptop and taking good care of it will help keep it in good shape. IBM, Fujitsu, HP business class and Panasonic Toughbooks are amongst the better brands. If you post a little more info on what you plan to do with your notebook and your budget we may be able to help you more. I am in the center of North America, so I have no idea what is available in India. Good Luck.

Also, T42 has 32MB ATI 7500 video card. I don't know if that is enough.

I'd take a look at this:

    http://www.costcentral.com/proddetail/IBM_ThinkPad_T42_2378/2378R4U/F27243/

IBMs are the best built notebooks. If you take good care of it that will help. I would put in some more memory when you can. Good Luck.
