Hi - I'm new to the forum as of today and only came because my Dell Inspiron, which I have loved and enjoyed for 2-1/2 years, simply "died" today without warning. I replaced the battery about a year ago and it was clearly announced to me that I needed to do so. This time there was no warning other than that the system seemed to be operating slowly, then pow, it was dead. I was using it on the dc power, not the battery, so I don't believe it could be the battery. Even plugged in properly, the computer will not turn on or give any indication that it is receiving power.

Anybody else ever have this happen? :(

Your motherboard may be damaged. If your warranty is still applicable, you may want to get it checked out and sent in ASAP for replacement.

Also, before you send anything in, see about backing up the contents of you hard drive. I believe there are methods to do so even if the laptop doesn't turn on.

Slow performance seems to indicate a hard drive problem, but the not receiving power seems to indicate a power connector problem. If you have a warranty you can get it replaced, otherwise you would have to take it into a shop.

If you're lucky you're still in the warranty though I've had my share of products that had, for example, 2 years of warranty, and after 2 years and say, 1 or 2 weeks, it broke. It almost seems they make it in order to last a bit past the warranty period.

I think thats the idea, my cousin's sony died 1 month after her warranty ran out.

Sounds like the motherboard is gone if no power from battery or from plugging in.
