Lifespan really varies from laptop to laptop. I've got Dell laptops from the late 90s that still run fine each having seen 4-5 years of heavy use. My current Inspiron 500m is on its fifth year and still seeing heavy use. Then again, others have duds that crap out after only a year or two.

Really though, I think if you take reasonable care of the machine it should last as long as you want it to last.

Well, you bought the cheapest of cheap laptops. You can buy a new battery. However, who knows about lifespan, thats what warranties are for. Its like a car. Some people will get one to last for 5 years before anything major goes wrong and another person might only make it a year. I don't have a crystal ball, so i cant answer your question. However, i see some commercials for fortune tellers on tv, maybe you should call one of them for an answer.

The B130 may have been cheap but it's reasonably solid and sturdy. You don't need a working battery as long as you don't mind keeping it plugged in. I see no reason to expect the rest of the laptop to break soon if you take decent care of it.

I have an older Inspiron model, which I just replaced... but it still works fine... after 3 years, the only thing wrong with it is some cosmetic blemishes... and the right shift key which broke when I spilled soda on the keyboard. ;)

It comes down to a bit of luck, and, as nizzy said above, how well you take care of it. Also, the most likely things to fail are the RAM and the hard drive... and those are easy to replace.
