I bought Dell Inspiron 630m. This is my first laptop. It?s the same machine as XPS m140. I like this laptop. But its display disappointed me. I took matte display (non true-life), because I work with the text and was afraid of reflections. The display has light leakage on the bottom and it has bad viewing angles. Could you please answer my questions?
1) Will white leakage disappear in the future?
2) Is it worth to call Dell and change the display? I am afraid that all XPS m140/ Inspiron 630m displays have that problem?
3) Will it help to solve light leakage problem and viewing angle problem if I switch to True-life?

I too am very disappointed with Dell's displays. I heard Dell is going to be switching LCD manufactures. I would recomend to people to buy some other brand because of the extremely low quality displays. The answers to your 3 questions is you are screwed. It is too bad because the rest of the machine is pretty nice. I am surprised that more people are not complaining on these forums. I guess they have never seen the hp or sony laptop LCDs.

i have a 9300 with a UXGA truelife screen and i love it. i love the quality of it. there is light leakage, but its minimal. i commend dell for supplying high resolution screens like the 17" UXGA and the 15.4" UXGA because many other manufactures do not sell resolutions above XGA. i have had two powerbook users tell me that my screen had amazing color/depth. nearly everyone who sees my laptop comments on the screen as being amazing. i have looked at HP's and Sony's and can not stand their XGA resolutions.

since most manufacturers go with one backlight bar at the bottom of a screen it's quite frequent that there appears to be more light on the bottom. The XPS M140 does have a bit of light leakage for sure, but on mine it wasn't terrible or any worse than what i've seen from other manufacturers, I had the glossy display and only in the dark could I notice light leakage.

not sure about the 17" lcds, but my wuxga 15.4 is perfect. no dead/stuck pixels, perfectly even light spread. it literally is perfect in every way.
