I'm seeking feedback on a lightweight replacement for an Inspiron 1300 I once had. Something if I needed to use I could use while propped up in bed, nothing heavier than my old Inspiron 1300 which I don't know exactly how heavy it was but I need to replace it with another laptop, possible one lighter than my Inspiron 1300 which I would be using most of the time for web surfing and email. I know the lighter the laptops are the more expensive they are. Any suggestions?

Dell XPS M1330, or Dell inspiron 13. Or any other 13" laptop

If your only gonna do websurfing and email, a netbook might suffice. They are pretty light and actually pretty cheap. For ONLY websurfing and email you can find a nice laptop for under 400$ these days.

you probably want to avoid 12 inch laptops as they usually seem more expensive.
Also 14 inch and 15 inch laptops will probably be heavier than your previous laptop.

Does the Inspiron 13 come in different colored lids like the 1525 or not? I had the flu last year bad and for days I didn't get out of bed but I was able to do some computing on my Inspiron 1300 but I would not want anything heavier.

I don't know how much that Inspiron 1300 weighed by the way but those netbooks with their small screens would your eyes get tired after using them for several hours if all you did was to web surf and email from the comfort of your living room in the lazy boy? Thanks for your comments.

A 13 inch Vostro? That's a unit from Dell's SBD is it not? Is it pretty reliable? I guess it comes in basic flat black. I'll check it out, thanks.

Well with netbook it again depends on what you would use it for and your own preferences. I have a couple at work and me normally can read the font fine at its normal state but alot of people have to turn down the resolution to make stuff a bit bigger to help them out. I beleive acers netbook is around 10" screen so could be a good compromise

If you had Quicken installed on a netbook and had to make entries in any of Quicken's registries could you do so or would you suffer eye strain? Just to give you an example, I'm typing this post out from a Dell Dimension 3100 desktop PC which at one time had a 15" Dell analog lcd monitor connected to it, I had trouble reading Quicken's registries.

So one day I unpacked a 17" KDS CRT flat screen color monitor that I had stored in a bedroom closet and disconnected the 15" Dell lcd and connected the KDS monitor in it's place and it's a whole world of difference, it's like going from a 19" portable color TV to a 32" model. I always see things better on a CRT rather than an lcd and my eyes don't seem to get tired as quick although everything is now going to lcd. My KDS CRT monitor I think is no longer made but I have 2 of them and both are still doing good.
