    Hi

I recently got a Inspirion 6400 with 256MB ATI Mobility(TM) Radeon(R) X1400 Hypermemory and Vista home premium with 1GB of RAM.

My problem is that graphic card has dedicated 128MB of inbuilt memmory and it also shares 256MB from system RAM taking it to 384 MB.

From where and how do i reduce the amount that it shares?
I feel i can work fine with 128MB itself.

    Please help.

I believe you are mistaken. The x1400 has a total of 256MB - 128 onboard and 128 shared with the system. Seriously, I wouldn't worry about trying to restrict the video memory.

That card will only start to steal memory from the system if it needs it (aka when you play games). There's no way to change how that operates, but it won't take the memory under normal usage.

Vista incorporates its own memory sharing scheme, my 256MB 7900 GT shared no memory in XP, in vista I have a total of 751MB, like hyper memory, its dynamically allocated, so the ram is free until its needed.
