Anyone here using Linux at all? Why did you decide to give up on Windows? And do you notice a performance difference between let's say XP and Linux?
If I switched my 8600 over to that operating system, would I notice any kind of difference?

It depends greatly on what you are doing and with what skin (KDE, GNOME) you are using it. At all it is better and feels at home, though. Because the desktop looks like in windows.
Performance is better! But some distribution have problems with Wi-Fi and ACPI. My Latitude does work properly and without any problems. Now that intel gave away the drivers for WiFi in Linux there is everything working fine.
For a try in Linux try knopper.net, it is a Linux distribution which runs from CD.
