I would like to install Linux. Would Linux run any better on Precision laptop than on XPS? I know that Precision 5760 has official support for Linux. However, I also know that the two laptops are very similar.

Should be the same. Dell has the best support for Linux.

I have an XPS 13 with Ubunto 20 from Dell with all the drivers, you probably can load it on an XPS 17 and use it just fine with the preinstalled drivers:

Thanks. I wonder if the GPU in the Precision works better on Linux than the one on the XPS. Also, how does the previous generation Precision 5750 compare with XPS 9700 on Linux?

The GPU is essentially the same - the Precision has Quadro version of roughly the same pair of GPUs (3050 [Ti?] = A2000, 3060 = A3000)

My work doesn't buy the 17" but we have a lot of 5550 running Linux and the motherboards are basically the same between the sizes. 5550 has excellent Linux support. Waiting for the first 5560 to come in to try them out, I am due for a refresh (am still on a 2018 model myself)

11th Gen is much faster per-core than the 10th gen - 11th gen i5-11500h (6 core) is faster than the 10th gen i7-10875h (8 core) and of course the i7-11800h is faster still with 8 of the newer cores. Am not sure of the GPU speed difference.

The XPS 9710 should work fine with a Ubuntu 20.04 + the Dell repo added, they are essentially the same as the Precision.
