I have been thinking of buying Vostro 1500 or 1700 loaded with Windows Vista and plan to make it dual boot with a Linux Distro. Has anyone installed a linux distribution on Vostro and what has been the experience ? Does Dell give the OS CD so that we can repartition the HDD as per out requirement and reinstall Windows Vista after that ? And lastly, is the Dell wifi adapter supported on Linux ?

    Thanks,

Generally, Dell's do come with the reinstall disks, as well as their Media Direct (I don't think the Vostro comes with this, though).

Reformatting and partitioning should be simple enough.

When I get my vostro i shall install *nux on it and post a guide how to get *nux up and running on the vostro.

In general, Intel has been good to *nux lately and has been contributing to the driver pool, but i'm not sure if the N pre-standard card has drivers.
